Preoperative Carbohydrate Loading in Gynecological Patients Undergoing Combined Spinal and Epidural Anesthesia.
Purpose: Preoperative carbohydrate loading (CHO) could improve insulin sensitivity and promoted postoperative recovery under general anesthesia. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of CHO on gynecological patients. Methods: A group of 58 female patients undergoing surgery were randomized to either fast overnight (the FAST group) or receive 800 ml of CHO the evening before and 400 ml 2 h before anesthesia (the CHO group). ⋯ Lactate, pyruvate, and lactate/pyruvate ratios for the CHO patients were also lower than those for the FAST patients. Conclusions: CHO increased perioperative comfort in gynecological patients undergoing CSEA. It also attenuated insulin resistance after the operation and reduced the number of postoperative stress reactions.

Effects of Single-Dose Preemptive Pregabalin and Intravenous Ibuprofen on Postoperative Opioid Consumption and Acute Pain after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.
Non-opioid medications as a part of multimodal analgesia has been increasingly suggested in the management of acute post-surgical pain. The present study was planned to compare the efficacy of the combination of pregabalin plus ıv ibuprofen. ⋯ Preemptive pregabalin plus ıv ibuprofen in laparoscopic cholecystectomy reduced postoperative opioid consumption. This multimodal analgesic aproach generated lower pain scores in the postoperative period.

Clinical Efficacy Analysis of Percutaneous Kyphoplasty Combined with Zoledronic Acid in the Treatment and Prevention of Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures.
The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) combined with zoledronic acid (aclasta) in the treatment and prevention of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF). ⋯ Results of this study indicate that the clinical efficacy of PKP combined with aclasta in the treatment and prevention of OVCF is significant.

Copious Irrigation Versus Suction Alone During Laparoscopic Appendectomy for Complicated Appendicitis in Adults.
The objective of this study was to determine whether copious irrigation of peritoneal cavity during laparoscopic appendectomy for complicated appendicitis effectively reduces the incidence of postoperative complications and improves the postoperative recovery in adults compared with suction alone. ⋯ The study findings revealed that copious irrigation of peritoneal cavity during laparoscopic appendectomy could decrease the incidence of postoperative intra-abdominal abscess in adult patients with complicated appendicitis. These patients also had faster postoperative recovery and lower hospital charges.

The Effects of Intraoperative Esmolol Infusion on the Postoperative Pain and Hemodynamic Stability after Rhinoplasty.
Esmolol an ultrashort acting cardioselective β1-adrenergic receptor antagonist), has been successfully employed for perioperative sympatholysis. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that perioperative esmolol administration resulted in decreased postoperative pain and improves the hemodynamic balance in patients with rhinoplasty. ⋯ Intraoperative esmolol infusion is a valid method to reduce postoperative pain, it provide lesser need to analgesics and hemodynamic stability in first 3 hours of post rhinoplasty surgery.
