A common peroneal nerve block at the fibular head is uncommon in clinical practice. The case of a 41 year old, morbidly obese woman requiring right total ankle replacement is presented. Ultrasound-guided common peroneal nerve block was performed at the fibular head after an unsuccessful popliteal approach.

The waterpipe is an ancient Middle Eastern tobacco delivery system, which is also known as hookah, shisha, or narghile, and it is gaining widespread use. Waterpipes are often perceived as less dangerous than cigarettes. The amount of smoke inhaled in a waterpipe session may equal that produced by more than 100 cigarettes with high nicotine, carbon monoxide, and carcinogen intake. A case of significantly elevated intraoperative carboxyhemoglobin level and decreased oxyhemoglobin saturation in a patient with recent waterpipe use is presented.

The teaching of anesthesia history in US residency programs: results of a nationwide survey.
To determine the extent to which history of anesthesia-related topics are included in the didactic curriculum of United States residency programs in anesthesiology. ⋯ The low rate of interest in HOA among faculty members, and the lower rate of inclusion of lectures related to HOA during residency training, suggests that substantial barriers exist within the academic community towards a wider acceptance of the importance of HOA. Two positive indicators were the willingness to invite outside speakers and the receptivity to allowing residents to devote one to three months to projects related to HOA.
