Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Nasal versus oral fiberoptic intubation via a cuffed oropharyngeal airway (COPA) during spontaneous ventilation.
To compare the success rate of nasal versus oral fiberoptic intubation in anesthetized patients breathing spontaneously via the cuffed oropharyngeal airway (COPAtrade mark). ⋯ Nasal fiberoptic laryngoscopy is more successful and easy than the oral approach in anesthetized patients who are breathing spontaneously through the COPA.

Surgery on the affected upper extremity of patients with a history of complex regional pain syndrome: the use of intravenous regional anesthesia with clonidine.
To evaluate the efficacy of intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA) with clonidine in patients with a previous history of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) who are undergoing upper extremity hand surgery. ⋯ Intraoperative IVRA with lidocaine and clonidine on patients with a history of CRPS can significantly reduce the recurrence rate of this disease process.

Prophylactic nebulized lidocaine attenuates hyperdynamic response to abrupt mask inhalation of isoflurane in adults.
To examine whether prophylactic, atomized lidocaine blunts hyperdynamic responses and catecholamine release after an abrupt increase in volatile anesthetic administration. ⋯ Prophylactic ultrasonically nebulized lidocaine (2 mg/kg) obtunds the hyperdynamic responses to abrupt inhalation of 5% isoflurane but does not completely block catecholamine release.

The postoperative analgesic efficacy of wound instillation with ropivacaine 0.1% versus ropivacaine 0.2%.
To assess the influence of ropivacaine concentration on wound instillation-induced postoperative analgesia following total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. ⋯ With a pre-set volume, varying the concentration of ropivacaine (0.1% versus 0.2%) does not affect the analgesic efficacy of wound instillation following total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.

A comparison of anesthetic quality in propofol-spinal anesthesia and propofol-fentanyl anesthesia for total knee arthroplasty in elderly patients.
To compare propofol plus spinal anesthesia during spontaneous ventilation using the Laryngeal Mask Airway and propofol plus fentanyl anesthesia during mechanical ventilation with an endotracheal tube on quality of recovery after anesthesia. ⋯ Propofol-spinal anesthesia provided better and faster recovery than did propofol-fentanyl anesthesia for elderly patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty.
