Although a few case reports have shown that immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are potential inducers of capillary leak syndrome (CLS), an incidental finding cannot be ruled out. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics of ICI-induced CLS through a systematic review and to assess a potential safety signal. ⋯ This study showed a significant signal of disproportionality reporting for ICI-induced CLS, characterized by a long time to onset, and compared with the idiopathic form of the disease with a less abrupt onset and a less consistent hemoconcentration pattern.

To systematically assess test performance of patient-adapted D-dimer cut-offs for the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism (VTE). ⋯ This study indicates that adjustment of D-dimer thresholds to patient-specific factors is safe and embodies considerable potential for reduction of imaging. However, robustness, safety, and efficiency vary considerably among different adjustment strategies with a high degree of heterogeneity.

Effective prognostic and clinical risk stratification in COVID-19 using multimodality biomarkers.
In acute coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) patients, effective clinical risk stratification has important implications on treatment and therapeutic resource distribution. This article reviews the evidence behind a wide range of biomarkers with prognostic value in COVID-19. Patient characteristics and co-morbidities, such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, are associated with increased mortality risk. ⋯ Second, certain under-explored tests such as thoracic impedance assessment and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging deserve further investigation. Lastly, the prognostic values of most biomarkers in COVID-19 are derived from retrospective analyses. Prospective studies are required to validate these markers for guiding clinical decision-making and to facilitate their translation into clinical management pathways.

Although classic heat stroke (HS) is one of the most ancient conditions known to humans, the description of its early clinical manifestations, natural course, and complications remains uncertain. ⋯ The findings of this review suggest that HS induces an early multiorgan injury that can progress rapidly to organ failure, culminating in death, if it is not recognized and treated promptly.
