Observational StudyA retrospective observational cohort study investigating the association between acute kidney injury and all-cause mortality among patients undergoing endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been found to be associated with short- and long-term mortality and morbidity in various clinical settings. However, it is unknown whether AKI after endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (EVAR) is associated with postoperative mortality. ⋯ In the present study, AKI and transfusion were associated with significant increases in all-cause mortality after EVAR.

Acute kidney injury after pediatric liver transplantation: incidence, risk factors, and association with outcome.
Data on the incidence of, risk factors for, and association with outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) after pediatric liver transplantation are scarce. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to determine the incidence of AKI after pediatric liver transplantation. In addition, we examined risk factors for AKI and association of AKI with outcomes. ⋯ The incidence of AKI after pediatric liver transplantation was 46.2%. Increased preoperative total bilirubin level and increased intraoperative blood loss were independently associated with the development of AKI. AKI was associated with prolonged hospitalization.

Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy using the ETView Tracheoscopic Ventilation Tube(®): a teaching course in a pig model.
We planned a training course for trainees of different specialties with the aim of teaching the skills of a new procedure for performing percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) with an ETView tracheoscopic ventilation tube instead of standard bronchoscopy in an ex vivo pig model. ⋯ Our course seems to confer the technical skills to perform percutaneous tracheostomy to trainees and instill confidence with the procedure. However, the experience acquired on a training course should be evaluated in clinical practice.

A novel technique for ultrasound-guided central venous catheterization under short-axis out-of-plane approach: "stepwise flashing with triangulation".
In ultrasound-guided central venous catheterization, there is no standard technique either for the needle tip visualization or for the adequate needle angle and entry to the skin with short-axis view under out-of-plane technique. In the present study, we propose a novel technique named "stepwise flashing with triangulation", and the efficacy of this technique is assessed. ⋯ After the session, the success rate was increased and a deeper penetration rate was decreased. This technique will help us to facilitate vascular access and to avoid complications in clinical settings.
