Effect of epidural analgesia on cervical ripening using dinoprostone vaginal inserts.
To clarify whether the duration from cervical ripening induction to labor onset is prolonged when epidural analgesia is administered following application of dinoprostone vaginal inserts vs. cervical ripening balloon. ⋯ Epidural analgesia as labor relaxant adversely affected the progression of uterine cervical ripening when dinoprostone vaginal inserts were used, whereas it did not affect cervical ripening when a mechanical cervical dilatation balloon was used. The present results are significant for choosing the appropriate ripening method.

Associations between ondansetron and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting and food intake in Japanese female undergoing laparoscopic gynecological surgery: a retrospective study.
Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is important to achieve DREAM (drinking, eating, mobilization). Ondansetron inhibits PONV, but its effects on postoperative food intake have not been investigated. This study aimed to examine associations between ondansetron and PONV incidence, and postoperative food intake. ⋯ Ondansetron administration during surgery was significantly associated with decreased PONV risk but was not associated with food intake the day after surgery.

Modified del Nido cardioplegia is associated with low incidence of low main strong ion difference and hyperchloremia in pediatric patients after cardiac surgery.
The aims of this study were (1) to determine the associations of cardioplegic solutions with postoperative main strong ion difference (mSID), which is the difference between sodium ion concentration and chloride ion concentration ([Cl-]) and (2) to determine the associations of cardioplegic solutions with markers of organ dysfunction. ⋯ The use of modified del Nido cardioplegia may reduce the incidence of abnormal mSID and hyperchloremia compared with the use of a chloride-rich cardioplegic solution.
