Association between postoperative shoulder pain and left-side laparoscopic urologic surgery: a single-center retrospective cohort study.
Postoperative shoulder pain is a common problem after laparoscopic surgery. This study aimed to investigate the association between operative side and postoperative shoulder pain following urologic laparoscopic surgery performed in the lateral recumbent position. ⋯ The left operative side is associated with an increased incidence of postoperative shoulder pain after urologic laparoscopic surgery performed in the lateral recumbent position.

ReviewMachine learning in the prediction and detection of new-onset atrial fibrillation in ICU: a systematic review.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) stands as the predominant arrhythmia observed in ICU patients. Nevertheless, the absence of a swift and precise method for prediction and detection poses a challenge. This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms for predicting and detecting new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) in ICU-treated patients. ⋯ Notably, CatBoost exhibited superior performance in NOAF prediction, while the support vector machine excelled in NOAF detection. Machine learning algorithms emerge as promising tools for predicting and detecting NOAF in ICU patients. The incorporation of these algorithms in clinical practice has the potential to enhance decision-making and the overall management of NOAF in ICU settings.

Association between muscular tissue desaturation and acute kidney injury in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery: a prospective cohort study.
Present study was designed to investigate the association between muscular tissue desaturation and acute kidney injury (AKI) in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. ⋯ Muscular desaturation was associated with postoperative AKI in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery which may serve as a predictor of AKI.

Effects of palliative intrathecal analgesia on patients with refractory cancer bone pain.
This study examined the effects of intrathecal analgesia (ITA) using an extracorporeal pump with a subcutaneous port system in cancer patients with bone metastasis. Among the patients who died of cancer with bone metastasis at the palliative care unit of our institution, 11 who received ITA were selected. ⋯ Pain, opioid doses, and PPI decreased after ITA (P = 0.002, 0.002, and 0.017). ITA for cancer patients with increased PPI due to refractory cancer bone pain decreased pain, opioid doses, and PPI.(100 words).

The median effective concentration of ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided caudal block in children: a dose-finding study.
To determine the 50% minimum effective concentration (MEC50) and the 95% effective concentration (MEC95) of ropivacaine for ultrasound-guided caudal block during hypospadias repair surgery of pediatric patients. ⋯ This study showed that children in the preschool group required higher concentrations of ropivacaine than children in the toddler group during ultrasound-guided sacral block combined with non-intubated general anesthesia. At the same time, this method of anesthesia is safe and effective for children undergoing surgery for hypospadias.
