Association between muscular tissue desaturation and acute kidney injury in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery: a prospective cohort study.
Present study was designed to investigate the association between muscular tissue desaturation and acute kidney injury (AKI) in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. ⋯ Muscular desaturation was associated with postoperative AKI in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery which may serve as a predictor of AKI.

Randomized Controlled TrialOxygen concentration titration guided by oxygen reserve index during pediatric laryngeal surgery with high-flow nasal cannula oxygen: a randomized controlled trial.
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether adjusting the oxygen concentration guided by the Oxygen Reserve Index (ORI) during pediatric laryngeal surgery with High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen (HFNO) could achieve postoperative PaO2 close to physiological levels while ensuring adequate oxygenation in surgery. ⋯ In pediatric laryngeal surgery with HFNO, reducing oxygen concentration guided by ORI helped achieve postoperative PaO2 levels closer to physiological norms without compromising intra-operative oxygenation.

Association between postoperative shoulder pain and left-side laparoscopic urologic surgery: a single-center retrospective cohort study.
Postoperative shoulder pain is a common problem after laparoscopic surgery. This study aimed to investigate the association between operative side and postoperative shoulder pain following urologic laparoscopic surgery performed in the lateral recumbent position. ⋯ The left operative side is associated with an increased incidence of postoperative shoulder pain after urologic laparoscopic surgery performed in the lateral recumbent position.

Differences in the epidermal pain threshold between different needle puncture sites.
Puncture of the skin by a needle, such as for peripheral nerve block or for intravenous or arterial catheter placement, may cause pain to the patient, so that analgesic method may be required to reduce pain caused by needle puncture. Nevertheless, there is little information as to which puncture sites are more painful than the other. ⋯ We conclude that there are significant differences in pain threshold between different puncture sites. Analgesic method before needle puncture may be required at the sites where the pain threshold is relatively low.
