Randomized Controlled TrialRemimazolam: a randomized controlled study of its suitability for insertion of a supraglottic airway.
Loss of motor response to thrusting the jaw forward is a useful indicator for uncomplicated insertion of a supraglottic airway. The aim of this study was to assess the suitability of remimazolam for insertion of a supraglottic airway assessed by loss of response to jaw thrusting. ⋯ Remimazolam frequently does not inhibit response to jaw thrusting, and thus remimazolam is not a suitable induction agent for uncomplicated insertion of a supraglottic airway unless either a neuromuscular blocking agent or an opioid is co-administered.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of implementation of pain neuroscience education and rehabilitation exercise on post-operative pain and recovery after laparoscopic colorectal surgery: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
To optimize the efficacy of analgesia and post-operative recovery for patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery by integrating a composite psycho-somatic analgesia algorithm involving peri-operative rehabilitation exercise and pain neuroscience education into multi-modal analgesia. ⋯ The addition of peri-operative rehabilitation exercise and pain neuroscience education into multi-modal analgesia provided better analgesic effect compared with routine practice for patients receiving laparoscopic colorectal surgery and also facilitated better post-operative recovery. This composite psycho-somatic algorithm for peri-operative analgesia merits further application in clinical practice.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of music intervention on sedation in elderly patients undergoing transurethral resection of prostate under spinal anesthesia: a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.
Music intervention is commonly used as a non-pharmacologic therapeutic modality to alleviate anxiety in perioperative patients. This study aimed to assess the sedative and anxiolytic effects of music on elderly patients receiving transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) under spinal anesthesia. ⋯ Music intervention effectively provided slight sedation for elderly patients when undergoing TURP under spinal anesthesia without sedatives.

Randomized Controlled TrialAlkalized lidocaine in a tapered cuff suppresses endotracheal tube-induced hemodynamic changes: a randomized controlled trial.
The use of an endotracheal tube (ET) cuff filled with alkalized lidocaine (AL) can suppress ET-induced emergence phenomena, such as hypertension, tachycardia and coughing, and postoperative sore throat (POST) and hoarseness (PH). The efficacy of intracuff lidocaine may vary depending on the cuff shape, but there has been no study on the effects of a tapered cuff filled with AL. We examined whether intracuff AL suppresses ET-induced emergence phenomena, POST and PH. ⋯ AL in a tapered cuff significantly suppresses ET-induced cardiovascular changes in MBP and HR.
