Randomized Controlled TrialUltrasound evaluation of gastric emptying of high-energy semifluid solid beverage in parturients during labor at term: a randomized controlled trial.
What to intake during labor is controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare the gastric emptying of high-energy semifluid solid beverage (HESSB) versus that of carbohydrate (CHO) solution of equal calories and volume by evaluating the gastric antral cross-sectional area (CSA) using ultrasonography in parturients during labor at term. ⋯ The change of gastric antral cross-sectional area after HESSB is similar to the corresponding calories and volume of CHO and the gastric emptying of HESSB can be emptied within 2 h with better taste satisfaction and satiety in pregnant women under labor analgesia.

Randomized Controlled TrialGoal-directed fluid therapy during post-resection phase in low central venous pressure assisted laparoscopic hepatectomy: a randomized controlled superiority trial.
The purpose of this prospective single blinded randomized controlled trial was to find out whether goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) strategy in post-transection period in low central venous pressure (CVP) assisted laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) has more benefit than traditional fluid strategy. ⋯ The results show the implementation of GDFT strategy is not associated with fewer postoperative complications. GDFT strategy did not result in improved outcomes in low CVP-assisted laparoscopic hepatectomy.

Randomized Controlled TrialUsefulness of an automatic cuff pressure controller (SmartCuff) in inhibiting gasleakage around the cuff after tracheal intubation: a randomized controlled study.
Gas leakage around the cuff of a tracheal tube may frequently occur after tracheal intubation and inflation of the cuff. We assessed if the SmartCuff (Smiths Medical Japan, Tokyo, Japan), an automatic cuff pressure controller, would effectively prevent gas leakage. ⋯ Gas leakage may frequently occur after tracheal intubation, and the use of the SmartCuff can effectively maintain the sealing effect of the cuff.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe comparison of the analgesic efficacy of continuous paravertebral block alone compared with continuous paravertebral and intercostal nerve block for thoracotomy in adults: a randomized controlled trial.
The study aims to compare the analgesic efficacy of two analgesic interventions, continuous paravertebral (PVB) nerve block alone with continuous paravertebral and intercostal nerve block (PVB/ICB) in patients undergoing thoracotomy. ⋯ Clinicaltrails.gov NCT04715880.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe efficacy and safety of opioid-free anesthesia combined with ultrasound-guided intermediate cervical plexus block vs. opioid-based anesthesia in thyroid surgery-a randomized controlled trial.
In the context of the current comfort medicine and enhanced recovery after surgery, there is a demand for a new anesthesia method to reduce adverse reactions and accelerate recovery after surgery. This randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the efficacy and safety between opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) combined with ultrasound-guided intermediate cervical plexus block (ICPB) and opioid-based anesthesia in patients after thyroid surgery. ⋯ Compared with opioid-based anesthesia, the OFA combined with the ultrasound-guided ICPB can better improve patients' postoperative recovery, reduce nausea, and decrease pain scores.
