Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA comparison of intra-articular magnesium and/or morphine with bupivacaine for postoperative analgesia after arthroscopic knee surgery.
Both magnesium and morphine provide enhanced patient analgesia after arthroscopic knee surgery when administered separately via the intra-articular route. Magnesium sulfate amplifies the analgesic effect of morphine. This study was designed to compare the analgesic effects of intra-articular magnesium and morphine, with bupivacaine, when used separately and in combination. ⋯ Intra-articular administration of magnesium sulfate or morphine, with bupivacaine, had comparable analgesic effects in the doses used. Their combination provided more effective postoperative analgesia than either drug alone.

Randomized Controlled TrialPriming with rocuronium or vecuronium prevents remifentanil-mediated muscle rigidity and difficult ventilation.
The aim of this study was to test our hypothesis that priming with rocuronium would prevent muscle rigidity and difficult ventilation due to remifentanil administration. ⋯ The present study showed that priming with rocuronium or vecuronium reduced the incidence of difficult ventilation by avoiding the muscle rigidity caused by remifentanil.

Randomized Controlled TrialPostoperative analgesic effect of preoperative intravenous flurbiprofen in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
This study was carried out to evaluate the postoperative analgesic effects of preoperative intravenous flurbiprofen in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair under general anesthesia. ⋯ These results show that preoperative intravenous flurbiprofen facilitates the analgesic effect in the early postoperative period after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Randomized Controlled TrialPostoperative analgesia with minidose intrathecal morphine for bipolar hip prosthesis in extremely elderly patients.
It is known that an optimal dose of intrathecal morphine for analgesia after total hip arthroplasty in older patients is 0.1 mg. On the other hand, minidose intrathecal morphine (0.05 mg) is useful for analgesia after the transurethral resection of the prostate in elderly patients. We evaluated the postoperative analgesic effect of minidose intrathecal morphine after bipolar hip prosthesis in seniors (age 85 years or more) undergoing spinal anesthesia. ⋯ The results show that minidose intrathecal morphine provides a good analgesic effect without side effects, and it would be an effective and safe procedure for bipolar hip prosthesis in seniors.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe impact of two arterial catheters, different in diameter and length, on postcannulation radial artery diameter, blood flow, and occlusion in atherosclerotic patients.
Arterial cannulation is a common intervention in anesthesia practice. However, the success rates and complications of radial arterial cannulation with 20-G or smaller catheters in patients with atherosclerosis have been underevaluated. The aim of this prospective randomized study was to compare the efficacy of and complications with 20- and 22-G catheters for radial arterial cannulation in atherosclerotic patients. ⋯ A 22-gauge catheter for radial arterial cannulation in patients with atherosclerosis provides unchanged postcannulated radial artery diameter, decreases postcannulation complications, and improves the first-attempt success rate.
