[Effectiveness and time to onset of pregabalin in patients with neuropathic pain].
The data from a previously published 12-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicentre study on the efficacy and safety of pregabalin were analyzed for time to onset of analgesic action with neuropathic pain. ⋯ In patients with chronic neuropathic pain, the analgesic effect of both pregabalin treatment regimens was high and associated with a rapid time to onset.

[Peripheral analgesic effect of intra-articularly applied clonidine].
Clonidine applied intra-articularly into the knee joint has a peripheral analgesic effect. We examined intra-articularly injected clonidine to determine whether resorption with a measurable systemic concentration could be detected. ⋯ Intra-articular clonidine has a postoperative analgesic effect after knee arthroscopies due to a peripheral action.

[Topical application of local anesthetics and opioids after elective tooth extraction].
The aim of this study was to provide evidence for the peripheral effect of opioids in oromaxillary procedures and to investigate whether postoperative morphine sulfate plus lidocaine administered as a local spray achieve better analgesic efficacy than lidocaine applied alone. The double-blind randomized study included 60 patients. The patients exhibited neither preoperative pain nor inflammation (tooth extractions) and when pain occurred received as alternative medication diclofenac retard 50 mg or tramadol. ⋯ No differences between the two groups were observed in the demographic data, visual and numeric analog scale in the first 24 h, or in the consumption of analgesics. Since the patients presented in a pain-free state at the time of surgery, apparently no activation of the peripheral opioid receptors occurs. Thus, a peripheral effect of opioids could not be demonstrated in this model.

[Efficacy and safety of 0.1 mg of intrathecal morphine in arthroscopic knee joint surgery].
Intrathecal morphine provides effective postoperative analgesia but is associated with the risk of respiratory depression. A dose of only 0.1 mg has been shown to be optimal for effective and safe pain relief after abdominal surgery. This study was designed to determine whether the addition of 0.1 mg of morphine to the local anesthetic for spinal anesthesia produces adequate analgesia following arthroscopic knee joint surgery. ⋯ Intrathecal administration of 0.1 mg of morphine does not contribute to postoperative analgesia after arthroscopic knee joint surgery.

[Postoperative analgesia with rofecoxib. How effective is the preoperative application of a 25 mg dose?].
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of 25 mg rofecoxib. ⋯ Preoperative application of 25 mg rofecoxib is not effective for postoperative analgesia in patients after minor trauma surgery.
