Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a cutaneous manifestation of coeliac disease. Increased cardiovascular morbidity has been reported in coeliac disease, but in DH only little is known about this. In this cohort study with a long-term follow-up, the risk for vascular diseases in patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) and coeliac disease was assessed. ⋯ The risk for vascular complications appears to differ between DH and coeliac disease. In DH the risk for cerebrovascular diseases seems to be decreased, while in coeliac disease an elevated risk for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases was observed. These differing vascular risk profiles between the two manifestations of the same disease merit further investigation.

Psoriasis critically influences the psychosocial well-being of patients and reduces their quality of life and work efficiency beyond skin symptoms. However, evidence on the association between life quality based on the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and psoriasis severity is limited, particularly in China. This study aimed to explore the association between life quality based on the DLQI evaluation and disease severity among psoriasis patients in China. ⋯ Life quality based on DLQI evaluation positively correlated with disease severity among patients with psoriasis, especially among male patients and those with higher body mass index. Therefore, we recommend that clinicians treat the DLQI as an important indicator during patient treatment.

Desmoid tumors (DT) are rare benign tumors with a local invasion potential and recurrence. It is characterized on histology by an abnormal fibroblastic proliferation in a collagenous stroma, in variable proportions leading to heterogeneity of the lesion signal on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Current guidelines propose watchful waiting but in case of progression or symptoms, cryotherapy may be a therapeutic option in its extra-abdominal form. ⋯ KEY MESSAGESMagnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice for desmoid tumor (DT) follow-up, mainly based on contrast uptake which make data on diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) very rare. Cryotherapy is an accepted therapeutic option for DT that will lead to tumor necrosis. Hyperintensity on DWI with low apparent diffusion coefficient values is a possible expected early pattern on DWI after cryotherapy of DT.

This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cochlear implantation (CI) recipients in Saudi Arabia. The impact was measured using the results of an online survey that investigated challenges related to access to re/habilitation and programming services, increased dependence on virtual interaction, and emotional impact. ⋯ Collectively, outcomes from this study highlight the importance of shifting towards a more patient -centered model that offers empowerment and self-advocacy. In addition, the outcomes also emphasize the importance of developing and adapting emergency protocols. This will ensure continuation of services provided to CI recipients during scenario disasters like a pandemic.Key messagesPediatric aural re/habilitation was subjected to a significantly greater interruption, compared to adult aural re/habilitation, duringthe COVID-19 shutdown.Cochlear Implant (CI) recipients expressed feelings of anxiety, social isolation, and fear. These feelings were related to sudden changes in their CI functioning, caused by interruption of support services during the pandemic.Patient -centered model can offer emergency protocols that ensure a smooth continuation of cochlear implant-related re/habilitation and services during disaster scenarios such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
