Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of death in patients with cancers in America. Monensin has represented anti-cancer effect on various human cancer cells. We seek to investigate the effect of monensin on proliferation of human colorectal cancer cells and explore whether IGF1R signaling pathway is involved in anti-cancer mechanism of monensin. ⋯ Monensin could suppressed IGF1R expression via increasing IGF1 in colorectal cancer cells. It has the potential to be repurposed as an anti-colorectal cancer agent, but further studies are still required to investigate the detailed mechanisms of monensin underlying its anti-cancer motion.Key MessagesMonensin inhibits the cell proliferation and the migration, induces apoptosis and inhibits cell cycle progression in human colorectal cancer cells.Monensin may exert anti-cancer activity by targeting multiple signaling pathways, including the IGF1R signaling pathway.Monensin has the potential to be repurposed as an anti-colorectal cancer agent.

A meta-analysis and of clinical values of 11 blood biomarkers, such as AFP, DCP, and GP73 for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Hepatocellular carcinoma lacks ideal diagnostic biomarkers. There is a lack of scientific evaluation of relevant promising biomarkers as well. Therefore this study reanalyzes the related studies of 11 blood biomarkers of HCC, and compares the diagnostic value of these biomarkers for HCC systematically. ⋯ The pooled sensitivity and specificity of AFP were 0.61 and 0.87, respectively. The AUC of AFP were 0.78. The combination of AFP and other biomarkers improved the diagnostic efficiency. The diagnostic value of biomarkers including DCP, GPC3, GP73, Hsp90alpha, midkine, and OPN was higher than that of AFP. GP73 had the best diagnostic value for HCC with the highest sum of sensitivity and specificity (1.78) and AUC (0.95).KEY MESSAGESThe pooled sensitivity and specificity of AFP were 0.61 and 0.87, respectively. The AUC of AFP were 0.78. The effects of treatment via telemedicine interventions for patients with depression on depressive symptoms and quality of life: a systematic review and meta-ranalysis.
Aim: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to identify, evaluate, and synthesize the evidence from studies that have investigated the treatment effect via telemedicine interventions on depressive symptoms, quality of life, and work and social functioning in patients with depression. Methods: Six electronic databases (MEDLINE [1916-2021], PubMED [1950-2021], PsycINFO [1971-2021], Scopus [2004-2021], Embase [1972-2021], and CINAHL [1937-2021]) were systematically searched in March 2021. Reference lists of identified articles were hand searched. ⋯ Conclusion: This study showed the positive effects of treatment via telemedicine interventions on depressive symptoms and quality of life in patients with depression and supported the idea for clinical practice to establish a well-organized telepsychiatry system. KEY MESSAGESTelemedicine is effective at reducing symptoms of depression. Telemedicine can improve quality of life in persons with depression.

We performed an umbrella meta-analysis to explore the factors that influence the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. ⋯ The results of this umbrella meta-analysis first supported pre-existing understandings of the relationship between beneficial and adverse factors with the efficacy of ICI therapy. In addition, the overexpression of PD-L1 may adversely affect patients.

Patients with walled-off necrosis (WON) are still challenging to treat safely and effectively. Recently, double-pigtail plastic stents (DPS), bi-flanged metallic stents (BFMS), and lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) have been employed with endoscopic ultrasound-guided (EUS-guided) drainage. However, there is little solid evidence to support the effectiveness and safety of using stents. This study aims to compare the outcomes of the LAMS and the PS. ⋯ Compared to DPS, LAMS had better clinical outcomes and fewer side effects when treating patients with WON.
