As folates are essential for embryonic development and growth, it is necessary to accurately determine the levels of folates in plasma and red blood cells (RBCs) for clinical intervention. The aims of this study were to develop and validate a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for quantitation of folates in plasma and RBCs and to examine the association between plasma and RBC folate concentrations and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia (PE). ⋯ The in-house developed LC-MS/MS method for folates and metabolites in plasma or RBC showed satisfactory analytical performance for clinical application. Further, the levels of folates and metabolites were diversely associated with GDM, GH and PE development.

This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the prevalence of precancerous or malignant lesions of the cervix and/or endometrium among patients who underwent vaginal hysterectomy. ⋯ It is possible to detect a minor prevalence of precancerous and malignant lesions following post-operative procedures in POP. The assessment of the elderly through the use of risk-based evaluation merits attention for the purpose of early identification. This study offers valuable insights that can be utilized in preoperative counseling and enhancing the preoperative evaluation process.

Metaplastic thymoma (MT) is a very uncommon thymoma type, with biphasic differentiation as one of its histological characteristics. This histological pattern, however, can also be mistaken for type A thymoma and the A component in type AB thymoma. ⋯ For the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of challenging cases, the YAP1-MAML2 rearrangement and GTF2I mutation were both significant molecular events specific to MT and type A thymoma, respectively.

In hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv), two different fibrillar forms causing the amyloid deposition, have been identified, displaying substantially cardiac or neuropathic symptoms. Neuropathic symptoms are more frequent in early-onset patients, whereas late-onset patients, besides cardiac symptoms, seem to develop carpal tunnel syndrome, more often. With ultrasonography (US) of peripheral nerves, it is possible to distinguish structural changes, and enlarged cross-sectional area (CSA). The main purpose of this study was, for the first time, to elucidate US of peripheral nerves in Swedish ATTRv patients at an early stage of the disease, and to evaluate possible early enlarged CSA. ⋯ US of peripheral nerves could be a valuable tool in disease evaluation and could facilitate monitoring of disease progression.

The heterogeneity of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) patterns during pregnancy remains unclear. This study aims to identify latent OGTT patterns in pregnant women and investigate the high-risk population for late-onset gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). ⋯ Three distinct OGTT patterns presented different risks of late-onset GDM and adverse perinatal outcomes, indicating that timely monitoring of glucose levels after OGTT should be performed in pregnant women with HG pattern.
