There is an unmet clinical need for novel therapies addressing the residual risk in patients receiving guideline preventive therapy for coronary heart disease. Experimental studies have identified a pro-atherogenic role of the oxidized LDL receptor LOX-1. We investigated the association between circulating soluble LOX-1 (sLOX-1) and the risk for development of myocardial infarction. ⋯ In this prospective population study we found an association between elevated sLOX-1, the presence of carotid disease and the risk for first-time myocardial infarction. Taken together with previous experimental findings of a pro-atherogenic role of LOX-1, this observation supports LOX-1 inhibition as a possible target for prevention of myocardial infarction.

Few risk-forecasting models of allergic rhinitis (AR) exist that may aid AR pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in clinical practice. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate an effective clinical model for identifying candidates for AR PrEP using a routine medical questionnaire. ⋯ Early identification of candidates for AR PrEP using routine medical information may improve the deployment of limited resources and effective health management. Our models showed good performance in predicting AR; therefore, they can serve as potential automatic screening tools to identify AR PrEP candidates.

Community-based hospitals in China lack physicians, especially rehabilitation physicians. Recently, several financial resources have been developed to prepare general doctors for community-based hospitals. These doctors seem to be the best choices for assuming the role of a rehabilitation physician. However, their willingness and in-depth information from their perspectives have not been previously investigated. ⋯ From the perspective of general doctors, the reimbursement rate for medical insurance, which burdens patients, is the greatest problem in the process of developing community-based hospital rehabilitation services. Offering professional training to increase their capacity and developing common practices to increase doctors' proactivity to recommend rehabilitation therapy may help increase the future support of medical insurance and increase general doctors' willingness to take on the role of a rehabilitation physician.

To screen and identify microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) using clinical samples and construct a prediction model for the prognosis of LUAD. ⋯ miRNAs associated with the prognosis of patients with stage I LUAD were screened and validated, and a risk model for predicting the prognosis of patients was constructed. This model has good consistency with the actual prognosis of patients.

Background: Copy number variants of uncertain significance (VUS) has brought much distress for patients and great counselling challenges for clinicians. Of these, a special type of VUS (HT-VUS), harbouring one or both breakpoints within the established haploinsufficient or triplosensitive genes, were considered to be more likely to cause clinical effects compared with other types of VUS. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the properties and clinical significance of those HT-VUS samples in clinical testing for chromosome microarray analysis (CMA). ⋯ However, the incidence of HT-VUS was not statistically different between different groups. Conclusions: HT-VUS (deletions or duplications) involving introns and HT-VUS (duplications) including terminal coding exons (either the first or last exons) might be clinically neutral. Our study will be helpful for both interpretation and genetic counselling in the future.
