To evaluate the retinal and choroidal microvasculature after one or two horizontal rectus muscle surgeries in strabismus patients using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA). ⋯ This study revealed that the increase in choroidal thickness was more significant after two rectus muscle surgery. In addition, there were microvascular changes in sectional macular regions after strabismus surgery. OCTA is an excellent way to study the impact of strabismus surgery on the macular structure and blood flow.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a significant mode of death causing 15-20% of all deaths in high-income countries. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common cause of SCD in both sexes, and SCD is often the first manifestation of underlying CAD in women. This case-control study aimed to determine the factors associated with SCD due to CAD in women. ⋯ Underlying LVH and previous MI with myocardial scarring are common and often undiagnosed in women with CAD-related SCD. These results suggest that untreated CAD with concomitant myocardial disease is an important factor in SCD in women.

The effectiveness of hippotherapy simulation exercises for muscle strength, disease activity and quality of life in sedentary adults with ankylosing spondylitis.
Newly created systems called hippotherapy simulators (HS) mimic the primitive movements of a live horse. As they are new systems, research examining their usefulness has been well received. The aim of this study is to research the effects of HS on disease activity, quality of life and muscle strength in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). ⋯ The results of this clinical trial of HS exercises for AS patients indicate a positive effect on disease activity, quality of life and muscle strength. Therefore, horse-riding simulator exercises can be used as an alternative method for the management of individuals with AS.

The systemic immune-inflammation indicator (SII) has been extensively employed in various diseases for course change, treatment efficacy, or prediction, whereas whether it applies to iron overload or iron deficiency remains unclear. This study aimed at investigating the correlation between SII and serum ferritin in people aged over 20 in the US. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this study examined the correlation between SII and serum ferritin for the first time. The correlation between SII and serum ferritin was varied with sex, age and race in people aged 20 and older. Therefore, higher or lower SII may be relevant for identifying iron overload and iron deficiency.

Assessment of the patient's gastric contents is the key to avoiding aspiration incidents, however, there is no effective method to determine whether elective painless gastrointestinal endoscopy (GIE) patients have a full stomach or an empty stomach. And previous studies have shown that preoperative oral carbohydrates (POCs) can improve the discomfort induced by fasting, but there are different perspectives on their safety. This study aimed to develop a convenient, accurate machine learning (ML) model to predict full stomach. And based on the model outcomes, evaluate the safety and comfort improvements of POCs in empty- and full stomach groups. ⋯ The developed convenient RF model predicted full stomach with high accuracy and interpretability. POCs were safe and comfortably improved in both groups, with more benefit in empty stomach group. These findings may guide the patients' gastrointestinal preparation.
