Studying post-vaccination side effects and identifying the reasons behind low vaccine uptake are pivotal for overcoming the pandemic. ⋯ Our study revealed that most side effects reported were mild in severity and self-limiting. Increasing the public's awareness of the nature of the vaccine's side effects would reduce the misinformation and improve the public's trust in vaccines. Larger studies to evaluate rare and serious adverse events and long-term side effects are needed, so people can have sufficient information and understanding before making an informed consent which is essential for vaccination.

Acknowledging the association between diet and systemic inflammation, the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®) and the Energy-Adjusted DII (E-DIITM) were developed to categorize diet from anti- to pro-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in the relationship between DII and E-DII against the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) to assess the use of energy-adjustment when analyzing the inflammatory potential of the diet. ⋯ Use of an inflammatory index along with the HEI may provide further understanding into relationships between dietary quality by nutrient and food group consumption on the inflammatory potential of the diet.

An increasing number of α-hemoglobin (Hb) variants is causing various clinical symptoms; therefore, accurate identification of these Hb variants is important. ⋯ Hb Doi-Saket emphasizes a great diversity present in α-globin gene. The mutation in this family from Thailand was linked to -α3.7 and caused mild microcytosis in the carriers. The combination of this variant with deletions in α genes might cause a severe clinical phenotype. Different methods of separation can provide useful information in diagnosis, and a complete molecular approach is needed for confirmation before considering patient management.

Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a distinctive and severe syndrome, marked by an excessive systemic inflammatory response. In vivo, interleukin 8 (IL-8) is an essential pro-inflammatory cytokine. We aimed to investigate the value of serum IL-8 levels in predicting mortality in ACLF patients in the background of hepatitis B virus-related cirrhosis. ⋯ Serum IL-8 levels predict short-term mortality in ACLF patients in the background of HBV-associated cirrhosis, and the developed Nomogram model has strong predictive power and good clinical utility.
