It was well documented that calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and magnesium (Mg) participate in many physiological processes. We aimed to study the changing trend of serum levels of Ca, P, and Mg in frequent respiratory tract infections (FRTI) in children. ⋯ Serum levels of Ca and P may reflect the inflammatory status in children with FRTI. Alteration of serum Ca level may predict the risk of bronchitis and influenza B virus infection. Keeping the homeostasis of Ca, P, and Mg may be important for the prevention and treatment of FRTI.

The prognostic factors for patients with pure ovarian immature teratoma (POIT) and the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in stage IA G2-G3 and IB-IC POIT remains controversial. ⋯ Positive postoperative TM and FIGO stage II-IV were the prognostic factors for POIT. Active surveillance in stage I POIT of any grade may be practical for those with negative postoperative TM.

This study aimed to investigate the association between systolic inter-arm blood pressure difference (IABPD) and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), as well as chronic kidney disease (CKD), in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). ⋯ Systolic IABPD did not exhibit an independent association with eGFR in T2DM patients. However, older age, a previous history of hypertension, and a longer duration of DM were all significantly associated with lower eGFR.

Low HbF expression in HbE-β+-thalassemia may lead to misdiagnosis of HbE heterozygosity. We aimed to characterize the β- and α-globin genes and the modifying factors related to HbF expression in patients with an Hb phenotype similar to that of HbE heterozygotes. Furthermore, screening tools for differentiating HbE-β+-thalassemia from HbE heterozygotes have been investigated. ⋯ HbE-β+-thalassemia cannot be disregarded until appropriate DNA analysis is performed, and the detection of α-thalassemia mutations should always be performed under these conditions. An HbE level ≥35.0% may indicate screening of samples for DNA analysis for HbE-β+-thalassemia diagnosis.

Whether the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) can effectively discriminate the severe/critical state of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the prehospital stage remains unknown. We aimed to assess the performance of NEWS2 in rapidly discriminating severe/critical COVID-19 and its relationship with prehospital medical services. ⋯ Prehospital NEWS2 can accurately and rapidly discriminate severe/critical COVID-19 during the Omicron variant wave. High levels of NEWS2 indicate an increase in prehospital care workload and consumption of medical human resources.
