We aim to investigate the ethical attitudes of the Chinese population toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment (WLST) in disorders of consciousness (DoC) patients. ⋯ Chinese respondents exhibit a relatively low propensity to accept WLST in DoC. Ethical attitudes toward WLST resulted to be affected by individual characteristics of responders. These results call for developing better regulations for identifying qualified surrogate decision-makers and reducing legal ambiguities.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) afflicts both pediatric and adult populations and is characterized by dismal prognosis and elevated mortality. Given the inconsistent therapeutic benefits and significant side effects associated with the conventional chemotherapy agent, mitotane, and the nascent stage of immunotherapy and targeted treatments, there is an urgent need to identify novel prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets in ACC. ⋯ This study demonstrates the clinical and biological significance of KPNA2 in ACC and suggests that KPNA2 could serve as a promising biomarker for predicting prognosis and immunotherapeutic responses in pediatric and adult ACC patients.

Kidney diseases are considered silent killers due to the lack of well-defined symptoms. Public knowledge about chronic kidney disease (CKD) management has been shown to decrease the risk of CKD onset and progression to end-stage renal disease and renal failure. The main objective of this study was to assess the knowledge of kidney function, CKD symptoms, etiology, prevention and treatment in the general population. ⋯ The public level of knowledge about CKD management is greatly influenced by participants' health and social factors. Thus, improving public knowledge and perception through education and the media will significantly reduce CKD prevalence and incidence.

The objective of this study was to thoroughly investigate the clinical value of triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) in patients diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Specifically, we aimed to determine its association with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and the progression of liver fibrosis. ⋯ This study confirms a significant association between insulin resistance and NAFLD, including at-risk NASH and fibrosis staging, as assessed using the TyG-BMI index. TyG-BMI and its associated multivariate models can be valuable noninvasive indicators for NAFLD diagnosis, risk stratification, and disease course monitoring.

Microscopic colitis has been increasingly recognized as a cause of chronic diarrhoea. We aimed to characterize the role of disease-related factors and treatments on the clinical outcomes of microscopic colitis. ⋯ In the present cohort of patients with microscopic colitis, a favourable response to budesonide was significantly associated with long-term clinical remission, and all patients achieving histological remission were able to maintain clinical remission without further medical therapy. Larger studies are required to confirm these findings.
