Peptide hormones and risk for future cardiovascular events among prediabetics: a 20-year follow-up in the OPERA study.
Background: Prediabetes has proven to have many unfavourable impacts on the cardiovascular system. Methods: The OPERA (Oulu Project Elucidating Risk of Atherosclerosis) study included 1045 middle-aged subjects followed from the years 1990-1993 to 2014. The focus was on peptide hormones. ⋯ Among prediabetics, ghrelin seems to predict independently cardiovascular events in the long term. KEY MESSAGEAmong glucose tolerance groups, patients with IGT had the highest resistin, but equally high leptin and low adiponectin levels as diabetics. Among prediabetics, ghrelin seems to predict independently cardiovascular events in the long term.

Deep learning-based automatic blood pressure measurement: evaluation of the effect of deep breathing, talking and arm movement.
Objectives: It is clinically important to evaluate the performance of a newly developed blood pressure (BP) measurement method under different measurement conditions. This study aims to evaluate the performance of using deep learning-based method to measure BPs and BP change under non-resting conditions. Materials and methods: Forty healthy subjects were studied. ⋯ Key messagesAccurate and reliable blood pressure measurement is clinically important. We evaluated the performance of our developed deep learning-based blood pressure measurement method under resting and non-resting measurement conditions. The deep learning-based method could achieve accurate BP measurement under both resting and non-resting measurement conditions.

Ten days of levofloxacin-containing concomitant therapy can achieve effective Helicobacter pylori eradication in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This study investigated whether levofloxacin-containing concomitant therapy can effectively eradicate Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). ⋯ Ten days of levofloxacin-containing concomitant therapy is an effective and well-tolerated treatment to eradicate H. pylori infection for T2DM patients. Key messages Ten days of levofloxacin-containing concomitant therapy is well tolerated and superior to clarithromycin-containing sequential therapy for first-line H. pylori eradication in patients with type 2 diabetes. Clarithromycin resistance to H. pylori is the main factor associated with eradication failure in clarithromycin-containing sequential therapy in diabetic patients.

Treatment response to sleep, pain, and mood disturbance and their correlation with sleep disturbance in adult patients with moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome: Pooled analyses from 3 trials of gabapentin enacarbil.
This pooled analysis investigated the effects of gabapentin enacarbil (GEn) on clinical correlates of sleep disturbance in adults with moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) and no-to-moderate or severe-to-very severe baseline sleep disturbance. ⋯ GEn (600 mg and 1200 mg) was effective and well tolerated in adults with moderate-to-severe primary RLS regardless of baseline sleep disturbance level.

The effects of canrenone on inflammatory markers in patients with metabolic syndrome.
To evaluate the effects of canrenone compared to placebo on blood pressure control, some non-conventional biomarkers in cardiovascular stratification, and on metalloproteinases in patients affected by metabolic syndrome. ⋯ Canrenone seems to be effective in reducing blood pressure in patients with metabolic syndrome. Moreover, canrenone seems also to improve MPO, Lp(a), and metalloproteinases in these patients.
