Effects of visual aid on state anxiety, fear and stress level in patients undergoing endoscopy: a randomized controlled trial.
The present study aimed to calculate the estimated size and confidence interval for the effects of adding visual aid to counselling on anxiety, stress and fear of patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The secondary aim was to calculate confidence interval for endoscopy-related variables that predict which patients are likely to benefit from visual aids. ⋯ The increase in anxiety, acute stress and fear related to endoscopic procedures can be alleviated with psychological counselling coupled with visual aids before the procedure. Visual aid could lead to supplementary benefits in reducing anxiety scores.

Relationship between short-term self-reported dietary magnesium intake and whole blood ionized magnesium (iMg2+) or serum magnesium (s-Mg) concentrations.
Since we and others have shown that supplemental magnesium raises whole blood ionized magnesium (iMg2+) we investigated the relationships between self-reported dietary magnesium intake and concentrations of whole blood iMg2+ and serum magnesium (s-Mg). ⋯ Whole blood iMg2+ and s-Mg concentrations do not reflect short-term self-reported dietary intake in adults. Further research is needed to determine whether blood biomarkers of magnesium may reflect dietary magnesium intake.Key messagesDietary intake of magnesium, a shortfall nutrient, may be objectively measured using blood biomarkers of magnesium.Serum magnesium and whole blood iMg2+ were not associated with short-term dietary intake of magnesium.

Effectiveness of exergaming in reducing cancer-related fatigue among children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a randomized controlled trial.
Little is known about the effectiveness of the newly emerging technology of exergaming in reducing Cancer Related Fatigue (CRF). ⋯ The protocol of exergaming used in this RCT effectively reduces CRF and promotes functional capacity/endurance and PA in children with ALL undergoing chemotherapy. It may provide an alternative treatment modality to decrease the healthcare load.Key messagesCancer-related fatigue (CRF) is described as physical exhaustion, sleep disturbance, emotional distress, and cognitive dysfunction.Exergaming reduces CRF and promotes functional capacity/endurance and physical activity in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia undergoing chemotherapy.Exergaming may provide an alternative treatment modality to decrease the healthcare load.

"Comparison of Nissen Rossetti and Floppy Nissen techniques in laparoscopic reflux surgery".
The present study makes a comparative assessment of the Floppy-Nissen (FN) and Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication (NRF) procedures. ⋯ Our study revealed no significant difference between the laparoscopic NF and the NRF fundoplication treatments, aside from the duration of surgery.KEY MESSAGESThe Nissen-Rossetti technique can be used safely based on the similarity of its outcomes with those of the classical Nissen technique.Despite the documented success of laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, the absence of studies comparing surgery and medical treatments prevents these discussions from being concluded.Comparison of Nissen Rossetti and Floppy Nissen Techniques in Laparoscopic Reflux Surgery.

Emergency decompression for patients with ureteral stones and SIRS: a prospective randomized clinical study.
Patients with ureteral calculi and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) often require emergency drainage, and percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) and retrograde ureteral stent insertion (RUSI) are the most commonly used methods. Our study aimed to identify the best choice (PCN or RUSI) for these patients and to examine the risk factors for progression to urosepsis after decompression. ⋯ PCN and RUSI were effective methods of emergency decompression in patients with ureteral stone and SIRS. Patients with pyonephrosis and a higher PCT should be carefully treated to prevent the progression to urosepsis after decompression.Key messageIn this study, we evaluate the best choice (PCN or RUSI) for patients who have ureteral stones and SIRS and to examine the risk factors for progression to urosepsis after decompression. This study found that PCN and RUSI were effective methods of emergency decompression. Pyonephrosis and higher PCT were risk factors for patients to develop to urosepsis after decompression.
