Obesity and risk of fracture in postmenopausal women: a meta-analysis of cohort studies.
Obesity is associated with an increased risk of fracture in adults, but is unclear in postmenopausal women. We aim to determine the association of obesity with the risk of fracture in postmenopausal women. ⋯ Obesity is associated with an increased risk of all-cause and vertebral fractures in postmenopausal women, but is a protective factor for pelvic fractures. Inflammatory markers have a wide range of predictive values in the prognosis of non-small lung cancer (NSCLC). Poor nutritional status usually means a poor prognosis in patients with NSCLC, which is widely recognized by oncologists and nutritionists. Serum albumin has a certain value in evaluating the prognosis of patients. ⋯ We summarized and compared the advantages and disadvantages of these markers, but a prospective cohort study with long-term follow-up after adjustment for important confounders is still necessary. Whether the results and conclusions could be directly applied in clinical practice needs to be identified and evaluated. There is an urgent need to classify and standardize the albumin-related inflammatory markers that play an important role in the prognosis of NSCLC, which is the key to ensuring the transformation from clinical study to clinical application.

Restrictive ventilatory defects and elevated pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) are common in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and those with interstitial lung disease (ILD). However, as oxyhemoglobin desaturation seldom occurs in stable CHF patients at peak exercise, we hypothesized that the pathophysiology may be different between them. This study aimed to investigate: (1) PAP and lung function at rest, (2) pulmonary gas exchange (PGX) and breathing patterns at peak exercise, (3) mechanisms of dyspnea at peak exercise in patients with CHF compared to healthy subjects and ILD patients. ⋯ Normal lung function and PAP at rest, and dyspnea scores and PGX at peak exercise indicated that pulmonary hypertension and fibrosis were insignificant in the patients with CHF. The factors affecting dyspnea at peak exercise were different between the CHF and ILD groups. As the sample size in this study was small, large-scale studies are warranted to confirm our findings.

The coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) increased the already heavy workload in the pulmonary and respiratory departments, which therefore possibly increased the prevalence of burnout among pulmonologists or respiratory therapists. We aimed to compare the differences in burnout among pulmonologists or respiratory therapists pre- and post-COVID-19 by doing a systematic review with meta-analysis. ⋯ Burnout was widely prevalent among pulmonologists or respiratory therapists and increasingly perceived during COVID-19. Introduction: Several neurodegenerative conditions are associated with a common histopathology within neurons of the central nervous system, consisting of the deposition of cytoplasmic inclusions of TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43). Such inclusions have variably been described as morphologically and molecularly ordered aggregates having amyloid properties, as filaments without the cross-β-structure and dye binding specific for amyloid, or as amorphous aggregates with no defined structure and fibrillar morphology. Aims and Methods: Here we have expressed human full-length TDP-43 in neuroblastoma x spinal cord 34 (NSC-34) cells to investigate the morphological, structural, and tinctorial properties of TDP-43 inclusions in situ. ⋯ It cannot be excluded that filaments emerge on the long time scale from such inclusions, but the high propensity of the protein to form initially other types of inclusions appear to be an essential characteristic of TDP-43 proteinopathies. KEY MESSAGESCytoplasmic inclusions of TDP-43 formed in NSC-34 cells do not stain with amyloid-diagnostic dyes, are not enriched with cross-β structure, and do not show a fibrillar morphology. TDP-43 assemblies formed in vitro from pure TDP-43 do not have any hallmarks of amyloid.
