Accurate localization of retinal holes is essential for successful scleral buckling (SB) surgery. We aimed to verify the feasibility of using ultra-wide-field (UWF) imaging for preoperative estimation of retinal hole location. ⋯ It is feasible to locate retinal holes using UWF fundus photography before SB, which is helpful for quick localization, thereby reducing the learning curve of SB surgery.

This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of a non-invasive methylation gene test in clinical colorectal tumour screening. ⋯ The mSDC2 test has a higher PPV in patients with colorectal cancer and colorectal adenoma (AD), especially in high-risk groups over 50 years of age, and may help in the early diagnosis of colorectal tumours in the future.

Whether the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) can effectively discriminate the severe/critical state of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the prehospital stage remains unknown. We aimed to assess the performance of NEWS2 in rapidly discriminating severe/critical COVID-19 and its relationship with prehospital medical services. ⋯ Prehospital NEWS2 can accurately and rapidly discriminate severe/critical COVID-19 during the Omicron variant wave. High levels of NEWS2 indicate an increase in prehospital care workload and consumption of medical human resources.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) and malnutrition are major global health problems, with multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB complicating international efforts. The role of vitamin D in susceptibility to and as an adjunctive treatment for TB is being studied extensively, although no study has included MDR-TB patients in context to dietary profile with vitamin D levels and sunlight exposure. Objective: This study aimed to estimate vitamin D serum levels and examine their association with dietary intake of vitamin D and sun exposure in patients with MDR-TB. ⋯ Dietary intake may be more important than sun exposure in determining serum levels. However, the significance of this finding is uncertain. Further studies are required to confirm the association, direction, and potential for vitamin D supplementation to treat or prevent MDR-TB infection.

Most infectious diseases are caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites. Their ability to easily infect humans and trigger large-scale epidemics makes them a public health concern. Methods for early detection of these diseases have been developed; however, they are hindered by the absence of a unified, interoperable and reusable model. This study seeks to create a holistic and real-time model for swift, preliminary detection of infectious diseases using symptoms and additional clinical data. ⋯ The graph-based MLP and RF models effectively diagnosed influenza and hepatitis, respectively. This underlines the potential of graph data science in enhancing ML model performance and uncovering concealed relationships in the MKG.
