Q fever endocarditis is a major cause of culture-negative endocarditis. The role of Coxellia burnetii is underestimated because it is difficult to diagnose. We investigated the significance of C. burnetii as the cause of culture-negative endocarditis and vascular infection by examining blood and tissue specimens using serological testing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). ⋯ Approximately one-third of patients with culture-negative endocarditis and vascular infection was diagnosed as Q fever. Q fever endocarditis and vascular infection may be underestimated in routine clinical practice in South Korea.KEY MESSAGEQ fever endocarditis and vascular infection may be underestimated in routine clinical practice, thus, try to find evidence of C. burnetti infection in suspected patients by all available diagnostic tests including PCR.

The non-invasive identification of novel renal fibrosis biomarkers needs to be further studied. ⋯ Urinary TREM-1/TREM-2 ratio was a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of renal fibrosis in CKD patients.

Hypersensitivity reactions are an important aspect of perioperative care and are a crucial interdisciplinary issue in anaesthesiological practice, as well as allergological and laboratory diagnostics. This phenomenon was observed as early as the 1980s and 1990s in Western European countries, and knowledge on this subject has grown significantly over time. Although hypersensitivity reactions are not frequent events (the incidence of perioperative hypersensitivity reactions ranges from 1:386 to 1:13 000 procedures, with higher frequency - 1 per 6500 general anaesthesias with neuromuscular blocking agents administrations), their courses are unfortunately serious and life-threatening. ⋯ Additionally, there is a great need to develop a system to monitor their occurrence in other countries. The long-term epidemiologic studies have demonstrated variability in pharmacologic triggers. However, the main pharmacological substances (antibiotics, muscle relaxants, disinfectans, contrast agents) are related to aspects of patient safety during anaesthesia.

Preeclampsia (PE), one of hypertension-related disorders of pregnancy, is a common cause of maternal death worldwide. This study aimed to identify a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA-associated ceRNA network and related pathways in PE. ⋯ GNB5 and IL2RB might be key genes involved in the PI3K-Akt signalling pathway in PE, and hsa_circ_0087208, hsa_circ_0035443, hsa_circ_0067557 and hsa_circ_0052661 might regulate these key genes in PE by binding miR-1248 or miR-4303.Key messagesThere is still a lack of predictive and diagnostic factors for preeclampsia, which is a common cause of maternal death worldwide. This study identified a novel circRNA-associated ceRNA network and related pathways in preeclampsia.GNB5 and IL2RB might be key genes in their related circRNA-associated ceRNA network, and probably take an important role in preeclampsia via PI3K-Akt signalling pathway, which made them to be potential markers of preeclampsia.

Ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) is a novel adjuvant tumor therapeutic method by enhancing exogenous gene transfection to target tissues. This study aims to investigate the role of microRNA-492 (miR-492) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and further analyze the effects of UTMD-mediated miR-492 inhibitor on tumorigenesis. ⋯ The results showed that the expression level of miR-492 was up-regulated in NSCLC tissue samples and cells. Silencing of miR-492 inhibited NSCLC cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and UTMD-mediated miR-492 inhibitor could promote more significant inhibition, which indicated that UTMD-mediated miR-492 inhibitor might provide a novel strategy for the treatment of NSCLC.KEY MESSAGESmiR-492 inhibitor inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion.UTMD-mediated miR-492 inhibitor can promote more significant inhibition.UTMD-mediated miR-492 inhibitor provide a new strategy for NSCLC.
