Observational Study
Effects of traffic-related air and noise pollution exposure on allergic diseases in the elderly: an observational study.
Traffic-related air and noise pollution are important public health issues. The aim of this study was to estimate their effects on allergic/respiratory outcomes in adult and elderly subjects. ⋯ Our findings highlighted the need to better assess the effect of traffic-related exposure in the elderly, considering the increasing trend in the future global population's ageing.

Miliary Tuberculosis (TB) remains an important infectious disease that threatens human health. The clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of miliary TB are summarized in this study. ⋯ The clinical manifestations of miliary TB are atypical, and early diagnosis is challenging. The major comorbidities in miliary TB patients were pharmacological immunosuppression, pneumoconiosis, diabetes, pregnancy, and postpartum. Regarding etiological detection, multi-site and multi-type specimens should be collected for a timely diagnosis. Cerebrospinal fluid mNGS test may be a viable choice in some cases. Finally, current smoking, leukocytosis, elevated ALT levels, and the combination of lymphopenia with bone marrow tuberculosis or tuberculous lymphadenitis were identified as independent risk factors for adverse outcomes.

In this study, the chemical properties of Ganoderma applanatum polysaccharides (GAP) were systematically investigated, followed by a comprehensive analysis of their antitumor and antioxidant capabilities. ⋯ These results substantiate the potential of GAPs as viable and effective antitumor agents, additionally suggesting their utility as functional foods endowed with antioxidant attributes.

Background: Complicated urinary tract infections are a significant cause of morbidity, hospitalization, and elevated hospital costs associated with kidney transplantations. The treatment of complicated urinary tract infections is very challenging, due to varying severities of infection and lower cure rates. The available drug options for treating these infections are limited, each with different mechanisms of action, efficacy, and safety profiles, making drug selection more difficult for healthcare professionals. ⋯ The safety profiles of the drugs indicated that almost all drugs caused gastrointestinal symptoms, with imipenem-relebactam and colistin-imipenem combinations having the most serious adverse events. Cefiderocol had a low magnitude of adverse events, with most side effects being mild gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion: The study concludes that appropriate drug selection and treatment adherence are crucial for preventing complicated urinary tract infections and improving health outcomes.

Distal radial fractures are common forearm injuries. A key rehabilitation objective is achieving adequate wrist palmar and dorsal flexion range-of-motion (ROM). However, few studies have explored this relationship, with even lesser number of studies investigating the impact of distal radius alignment on wrist ROM limitation due to fractures. We aimed to determine the effect of radial alignment on wrist palmar and dorsal flexion ROM after conservative treatment for distal radial fractures. ⋯ Dorsal displacement of the distal radius induces alterations in the wrist joint motion axis, potentially affecting limitation in palmar flexion ROM. Patients with palmar flexion ROM limitation had more residual symptoms and longer rehabilitation period than those without. These findings may contribute to the development of evidence-based joint ROM exercises, risk management, goal setting, and rehabilitation programs for patients with distal radial fractures.
