The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused healthcare professionals to face unequal acute workplace stress and burnout. This study aimed to analyze the potential impact of COVID-19 on the burnout and associated emotional stress conditions of Turkish dental technicians. ⋯ The findings showed that dental technicians working during the COVID-19 pandemic are influenced by emotional stress due to the outcomes of the pandemic. One reason for this situation might be the long working hours. Working arrangements, under-controlled disease risk factors, and lifestyle changes may improve stress levels.Key MessagesCOVID-19 outbreak exposed psychological returns to the general population, and especially to healthcare workers.Questionnaire method was applied to evaluate the burnout and stress levels among dental laboratory technicians during COVID-19 outbreak.Moderate levels of burnout and stress perception were detected. Long working time was one of the effective factors.

Desmoid tumors (DT) are rare benign tumors with a local invasion potential and recurrence. It is characterized on histology by an abnormal fibroblastic proliferation in a collagenous stroma, in variable proportions leading to heterogeneity of the lesion signal on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Current guidelines propose watchful waiting but in case of progression or symptoms, cryotherapy may be a therapeutic option in its extra-abdominal form. ⋯ KEY MESSAGESMagnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice for desmoid tumor (DT) follow-up, mainly based on contrast uptake which make data on diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) very rare. Cryotherapy is an accepted therapeutic option for DT that will lead to tumor necrosis. Hyperintensity on DWI with low apparent diffusion coefficient values is a possible expected early pattern on DWI after cryotherapy of DT.

The present study aimed to construct and validate a Swedish translation (VVAS-S) of the Visual Vertigo Analogue Scale (VVAS). ⋯ The VVAS-S was found to be comparable to the original VVAS in terms of internal reliability. The translation was perceived as easy to implement by all participants and can be considered ready for clinical use in a Swedish-speaking setting. Item-specific correlations may be valuable for developing future vertigo questionnaires.Key messagesThe Swedish version of the Visual Vertigo Analogue Scale is a questionnaire suitable for evaluating visually induced dizziness in a Swedish population. This study found that the Swedish questionnaire was comparable to the original in terms of internal consistency. The Swedish Visual vertigo Analogue Scale can be found as an appendix to this article.

Centella asiatica (L.) Urb. (Apiaceae) is a renowned medicinal plant being used in the Ayurvedic system for its pharmacological effects on the central nervous system such as rejuvenating, sedative, anxiolytic and memory-enhancing properties. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of Centella asiatica (CA) extract on inflammatory responses induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and resulting changes in cognitive behavior. ⋯ Centella asiatica extract exhibited significant learning and memory enhancement potential in animal model. Hence, indicating its putative preventive therapeutic effects in neuroinflammation related diseases.KEY MESSAGEA single dose of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (5 mg/kg) administered systemically to mimic the consequences of LPS-induced inflammatory responses was able to affect some behavioral modification of spatial memory at the time point of study. The study showed that the learning capability during the training trial was restored or ameliorated with the pre-emptive treatment of Centella asiatica extract (200 mg/kg).Centella asiatica extract improves spatial memory, learning deficits and regulates proinflammatory responses in systemic LPS-treated rats.

Poor sleep quality is a common problem among hemodialysis (HD) patients. Dietary fiber is a key component of a healthy diet and is beneficial for a variety of health outcomes; however, evidence of an association between dietary fiber consumption and subjective sleep quality has not been established among HD patients. Therefore, we determined the association between dietary fiber consumption and the subjective sleep quality in Chinese maintenance HD patients, taking into account fiber type and source. ⋯ A higher intake of dietary fiber was inversely associated with the poor sleep quality. These findings support the current recommendations that dietary fiber is essential for health and well-being.Key messagesThis study was conducted because there was not prior evidence connecting sleep quality and dietary fiber consumption in hemodialysis patients. In the present study a cross-sectional design was used to assess the association between dietary fiber consumption and poor sleep quality.Intake of total dietary fiber, total insoluble dietary fiber, and soluble dietary fiber in vegetables were negatively associated with poor sleep quality among maintenance hemodialysis patients.
