This study aimed to assess whether in utero exposure to hyperglycemia influences prescription medicine purchases in the offspring of women with type 1 diabetes (exposed offspring). ⋯ Our findings suggest that exposed offspring purchase more reimbursable prescription medicines than reference offspring from age seven to thirty years. More research is needed to examine the effects of intrauterine exposure to hyperglycemia on long-term health in offspring.

Thyroid nodules are common, and investigation is crucial for excluding malignancy. Increased intranodular vascularity is frequently observed in malignant tumors, which can be detected through increased skin surface temperatures using noninvasive infrared thermography. We aimed to develop a diagnostic tool for thyroid cancer using infrared thermal images combined with an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. ⋯ The infrared thermal images, assisted by an AI model, exhibit good performance in distinguishing thyroid malignancy from benign nodules. This imaging modality has great potential to be used as a noninvasive screening tool for adjunct evaluation of thyroid nodules.

Increased diagnostic awareness and specific disease treatments have changed the landscape of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR). Patients with wild-type ATTR (ATTRwt) are increasingly being diagnosed, potentially changing the clinical profile and prognosis compared with existing retrospective data. We aimed to study the clinical characteristics, distribution of red flags and prognosis of contemporary ATTRwt patients. ⋯ Increased diagnostic awareness resulted in a 37% increase in newly diagnosed patients in 2020-2022 vs. 2017-2019. As expected all-cause mortality but also the morbidity in terms of risk of hospitalization with WHF were significantly lower in patients with NAC disease stage I, as well as in those with low NT-proBNP levels <1000 ng/L. These findings underline the importance of continuous attention to diagnostic awareness, as early diagnosis is critical for initiating both general and specific ATTR treatment, thus improving prognosis.

Dose (number of repetitions) has been suggested as a key element in the effectiveness of rehabilitation exercises to promote motor recovery of the hemiparetic upper limb. However, rehabilitation exercises tend to be monotonous and require significant motivation to continue, making it difficult to increase the exercise dose. To address this issue, gamification technology has been implemented in exercises to promote self-engagement for people with hemiparesis in continuing monotonous repetitive movements. This study aimed to investigate how subjective perspectives, specifically enjoyability, motivation to continue, and expectancy of effectiveness, change through continuous daily exercise using a developed gamified exercise system. ⋯ Exercise using the developed EMG-controlled gamified system may have the potential to maintain motivation and enjoyment in people with stroke to continue monotonous repetitive finger movements.

Introduction: This study investigated the health effects of two different architectural glass types: A two-layered low-iron high transmittance glass and a three-layered low energy glass with lower transmittance. The study investigated how these glass types affected daylight conditions in 72 residential apartments, as well as health and satisfaction of the residents. Methods: The study installed high transmittance glass (light transmittance LT:0.82) in 36 apartments and low transmittance (LT:0.74) in 36 identical apartments. ⋯ The results of energy consumption for heating showed that two-layered low-iron glass reduced the energy consumption by 11.0%, while three-layered low energy glass reduced the energy consumption by 9.4%, compared to the year prior to renovation. Conclusion: The results contribute to a discussion about potential energy savings on one hand and potential non-energy benefits, such as daylight quality, overall health, and total economy/life cycle assessment of the built environment on the other hand. The results suggest further research performed in randomized large-scale studies.
