Multicenter StudyIs severity assessment after one hour of treatment better for predicting the need for admission in acute asthma?
To determine if severity assessment after 1 h of treatment is better than assessment at presentation for predicting the requirement for hospital admission for emergency department (ED) patients with acute asthma. ⋯ Assessment of asthma severity after 1 h of treatment is better than initial severity assessment for determining the need for hospital admission for patients initially assessed as having 'moderate' asthma and for predicting the need for ICU in patients initially assessed as 'severe'.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialGemifloxacin once daily for 7 days compared to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid thrice daily for 10 days for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia of suspected pneumococcal origin.
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is common among adults and contributes considerably to morbidity and mortality. ⋯ Gemifloxacin 320 mg once daily for 7 days was found to be clinically, bacteriologically, and radiologically as effective as 10 days of amoxicillin/clavulanate 1 g/125 mg three times daily for the treatment of suspected pneumococcal CAP.
