Postdischarge pain, nausea and patient satisfaction after diagnostic and breast conserving ambulatory surgery for breast cancer: a cross sectional study.
The aims of this study were to assess first day postdischarge pain, nausea and patient satisfaction in ambulatory breast cancer surgical patients, after diagnostic and breast conserving procedures. ⋯ Pain scores and incidence of nausea were generally low on the day after surgery. Young age was a strong predictor for postdischarge pain. A high worst pain score and high pain score during the activity were associated with postdischarge nausea. Patient satisfaction was high.

Randomized Controlled TrialUltrasound-guided multiple injection costotransverse block for mastectomy and primary reconstructive surgery. A study protocol.
Post-operative pain amelioration following breast cancer surgery is inconsistent. The novel multiple-injection costotransverse block (MICB) mimics the thoracic paravertebral block by possible anaesthetising the ventral rami of the thoracic spinal nerves and the sympathetic trunk. Proof of concept has been determined in a cadaveric study and needs further clinical testing. ⋯ Recruitment began in November 2019 and is expected to finish ultimo 2021. Results are expected to be published in an international peer-reviewed medical journal. The results will hopefully provide a substantial contribution to the knowledge of these new 'intertransverse process blocks' providing regional anaesthesia of the thoracic wall.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyIsoflurane promotes early spontaneous breathing in ventilated intensive care patients: a post hoc subgroup analysis of a randomized trial.
Spontaneous breathing is desirable in most ventilated patients. We therefore studied the influence of isoflurane versus propofol sedation on early spontaneous breathing in ventilated surgical intensive care patients and evaluated potential mediation by opioids and arterial carbon dioxide during the first 20 h of study sedation. ⋯ Isoflurane compared to propofol sedation promotes early spontaneous breathing in deeply sedated ventilated intensive care patients. The benefit appears to be a direct effect isoflurane rather than being mediated by opioids or arterial carbon dioxide.

Development of a core outcome set for general intensive care unit patients - a protocol.
Different outcomes are reported in randomised clinical trials (RCTs) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, and no core outcome set (COS) is available for ICU patients in general. Accordingly, we aim to develop a COS for ICU patients in general. ⋯ The outlined multiple method studies will establish a COS for ICU patients in general, which may be used to increase the standardisation and comparability of results of RCTs conducted in patients in the ICU setting.
