Randomized Controlled TrialComparing two airway management strategies for moderately sedated patients undergoing awake craniotomy: a single-blinded randomized controlled trial.
In the monitored anesthesia care (MAC) setting for awake craniotomy (AC), maintaining airway patency in sedated patients remains challenging. This randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the validity of the below-epiglottis transnasal tube insertion (the tip of the tube placed between the epiglottis and vocal cords) and the nasopharyngeal airway (simulated by the above-epiglottis transnasal tube with the tip of the tube placed between the epiglottis and the free edge of the soft palate) with respect to maintaining upper airway patency for moderately sedated patients undergoing AC. ⋯ The below-epiglottis tube insertion is a more effective method to maintain upper airway patency than the nasopharyngeal airway for moderately sedated patients undergoing AC.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of different general anaesthetics on ventricular repolarisation in robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy.
Ventricular repolarisation is affected differently by the types of anaesthetics used. This study aimed to compare the effect of different types of anaesthetics on ventricular repolarisation during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP). ⋯ To minimise QTc interval prolongation during RALP, TIVA with propofol/remifentanil is recommended for general anaesthesia.

Randomized Controlled TrialLow-dose hydrocortisone in patients with COVID-19 and severe hypoxia (COVID STEROID) trial-Protocol and statistical analysis plan.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 has caused a pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with many patients developing hypoxic respiratory failure. Corticosteroids reduce the time on mechanical ventilation, length of stay in the intensive care unit and potentially also mortality in similar patient populations. However, corticosteroids have undesirable effects, including longer time to viral clearance. Clinical equipoise on the use of corticosteroids for COVID-19 exists. ⋯ The COVID STEROID trial will provide important evidence to guide the use of corticosteroids in COVID-19 and severe hypoxia.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe Agents Intervening against Delirium in the Intensive Care Unit-Trial (AID-ICU trial):- a detailed statistical analysis plan.
The AID-ICU trial aims to assess the benefits and harms of haloperidol for the treatment of delirium in acutely admitted, adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients. This paper describes the detailed statistical analysis plan for the primary publication of results from the AID-ICU trial. ⋯ The AID-ICU trial will provide important, high-quality data on the benefits and harms of treatment with haloperidol in acutely admitted, adult patients with manifest delirium in the ICU.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyLong-term mortality in the Intermediate care after emergency abdominal surgery (InCare) trial - a post-hoc follow-up study.
Patients undergoing emergency abdominal surgery are at high risk of post-operative complications. Although post-operative treatment at an intermediate care unit may improve early outcome, there is a lack of studies on the long-term effects of such therapy. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term effect of intermediate care versus standard surgical ward care on mortality in the Intermediate Care After Emergency Abdominal Surgery (InCare) trial. ⋯ We found no statistically significant difference in 6-year mortality between patients randomized to post-operative intermediate care or ward care after emergency abdominal surgery. However, we detected an absolute mortality risk reduction of 5% in favour of ward care, possibly due to random error.
