Randomized Controlled Trial Retracted PublicationDo patients profit from physostigmine in recovery from desflurane anaesthesia?
Physostigmine is the drug of choice in the central anticholinergic syndrome, but has also been used in post-operative mental derangement secondary to sedatives and volatile anaesthetics. The aim of this double-blind, randomized, prospective study was to determine whether physostigmine alters recovery after desflurane anaesthesia. ⋯ Physostigmine does not alter desflurane-based anaesthesia compared with placebo. An option is to use physostigmine in patients with a duration of anaesthesia >150 min who profit in earlier return to spontaneous breathing and shorter extubation time.

Retracted PublicationRetracted: Price development in important anesthesia and critical care medicine journals in comparison to journals of other disciplines.
In today's climate of financial restrictions, libraries and individual subscribers complain about the price increase of scientific journals. The development in prices of anesthesia/critical care journals was analysed over the past 6 years and compared to prices of some journals of other disciplines. ⋯ A disproportionate rise in journal prices was seen over the past 6 years. The large increase in cost may have multiple reasons. The rapidly increasing cost of research journals may affect research quality because economic pressure may result in reduction in availibility of information due to cancellation of subscriptions to journals.

Retracted PublicationChanges in the impact factor of anesthesia/critical care journals within the past 10 years.
The impact factor (IF) is published by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). There is a tendency to assess quality of scientific journals with the help of the IE An analysis of the changes in the IF over time in the different specialities may help to further enlighten the worth and problems of the IE METHODS: The IFs listed under the subheadings Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine & Critical Care in the Science Citation Index - Journal Citation Report were descriptively analysed over the past 10 years. Additionally, IFs of some other important journals (subheadings Surgery, Cardiovascular, General Medicine) were analysed. ⋯ Although the value of the IF is highly controversial, it is a frequently used tool to assess rating of a medical journal. Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine & Critical Care journals showed a continuous increase in the IF over the past 10 years.

Retracted PublicationComposition of the editorial/advisory boards of major English-language anesthesia/critical care journals.
Publications represent a central part of the research process. An analysis of who is responsible for acceptance of publications in major English-language anesthesia/critical care medicine journals was carried out. ⋯ Most editors/editorial board members of important Anesthesiology, Emergency and Critical Care journals came from the USA. Other countries play a significantly less influential role even in journals which are characterised as 'International Journals'.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial Retracted PublicationInfluence of dopexamine hydrochloride on haemodynamics and regulators of circulation in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery.
Catecholaminergic support is often used to improve haemodynamics in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. Dopexamine is a synthetic vasoactive catecholamine with beneficial microcirculatory properties. ⋯ Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery may profit from prophylactic perioperative administration of dopexamine hydrochloride in the form of improved haemodynamics and oxygenation as well as beneficial influence on important regulators of organ blood flow.
