Comparative StudyThe clinical and radiographic results of intertrochanteric curved varus osteotomy for idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
In this study, postoperative results of intertrochanteric curved varus osteotomy (CVO) for idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ION) were studied retrospectively and optimal indication of CVO was considered. ⋯ The results of CVO for ION were successful, if this procedure was indicated for cases with intact load-bearing area more than 40 %.

Can cantilever transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (C-TLIF) maintain segmental lordosis for degenerative spondylolisthesis on a long-term basis?
To determine if cantilever transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (C-TLIF) using the crescent-shaped titanium interbody spacer (IBS) favors acquisition of segmental and lumbar lordosis even for degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) on a long-term basis. ⋯ Despite the inherent limitation of placing the IBS against the anterior endplate of the upper vertebra in the presence of DS, the C-TLIF helped significantly restore segmental as well as lumbar lordosis on a long-term basis, which would be of benefit in preventing hypolordosis-induced back pain and the adjacent level disc disease.

Case ReportsPercutaneous screw fixation for a femoral head fracture: a case report.
Femoral head fracture associated with hip dislocation is relatively rare but very severe injury. Due to its severity and the need of joint exposure for the reduction of femoral head fracture, the surgical treatment cannot but accompany many complications, including the osteonecrosis of the femoral head, heterotopic ossification, and post-traumatic osteoarthritis. ⋯ At 4 years post operation, full Harris hip score was achieved, and there were no osteonecrosis of the femoral head, no heterotopic ossification, and no post-traumatic osteoarthritis. We suggest attempting less invasive percutaneous screw fixation for the femoral head fracture.

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty after failed deltoid flap reconstruction.
Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) yields unsatisfactory results after deltoid flap reconstruction due to defect of the deltoid muscle. ⋯ Despite of a localized defect of the deltoid muscle after deltoid flap repair, RSA can reliably be associated with a satisfactory outcome.

An economic analysis of aseptic revision hip arthroplasty: calculation of partial hospital costs in relation to reimbursement.
Aseptic loosening is one of the most common intermediate and long-term complications after total hip replacement (THR). These complications cause suffering and require expensive revision surgery. Little concrete data on direct costs are available from the hospital's, moreover operating department's perspective. We here provide a detailed analysis of the costs of THR revision and relate them to reimbursement underlying the German diagnosis-related groups (DRG) system. ⋯ Our study for the first time provides a detailed analysis of the major direct case costs of THR revision for aseptic loosening from the provider's perspective. Our findings suggest that these revision operations could be performed cost-beneficially by the operating unit. From an economic perspective, cases with higher cost weights are more favorable for a hospital. These results need to be confirmed in multicenter studies.
