Review Meta AnalysisEffectiveness and safety of arthroscopic versus open Bankart repair for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation: a meta-analysis of clinical trial data.
To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of arthroscopic and open Bankart repair for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation using meta-analysis of data from clinical trials. ⋯ Meta-analysis of available randomized controlled trials and case-control studies demonstrated that arthroscopic repair and open Bankart repair were similar in safety. Arthroscopic repair resulted in better recovery of range of motion, but recurrence and reoperation rates were higher than open Bankart repair.

Review Meta AnalysisOne step closer to sparing total blood loss and transfusion rate in total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis of different methods of tranexamic acid administration.
Tranexamic acid (TXA) in orthopedics has recently been gaining favor due to its efficacy and ease of use, both in intravenous (IV) and intraarticular (IA) usage. However, because of safety concerns with IV administration, there has been a growing interest in the IA use of TXA to prevent bleeding. ⋯ This study showed that TXA leads to significant reductions in TBL and the rate of allogeneic transfusions. Generally, no significant difference was detected between IA and IV administration of TXA; however, more studies with focus on safety and efficacy are warranted.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe beneficial effect of Batroxobin on blood loss reduction in spinal fusion surgery: a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Batroxobin on blood loss during spinal operations. ⋯ In this study, prophylactic use of Batroxobin provided an effective and cheap method for reducing blood loss without coagulopathy during or after operations. The use of Batroxobin for patients undergoing one-level PLIF surgery safely and effectively reduced the total amount of perioperative blood loss.

Randomized Controlled TrialFarmedial versus anteromedial portal drilling of the femoral tunnel in ACL reconstruction: a computed tomography analysis.
The success of ACL reconstruction is predicated on a variety of factors. Tunnel placement plays one of the most significant roles in achieving knee kinematics and function. The purposes of this study were to compare femoral tunnel position, angle, length and posterior wall blow-out after ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendons autograft through either a farmedial portal or an anteromedial portal technique. ⋯ Level I, prospective randomised comparative cohort study.

ReviewPathogenesis and prevention strategies of heterotopic ossification in total hip arthroplasty: a narrative literature review and results of a survey in Germany.
Heterotopic ossification (HO) after THA can lead to pain, impaired range of motion and possibly revision surgery. This article summarizes current literature on the pathogenesis of HO in THA and trauma. Second, it presents the results of a survey on prophylactic concepts for HO in Germany. ⋯ Basic research detected new pathways and cell signalling mechanisms of HO pathogenesis, which could offer new treatment and prophylaxis options in the near future. So far, there is no uniform strategy for the clinical prophylaxis of HO in THA. Guidelines and new clinical trials need to be developed to further reduce HO rates in THA.
