Observational StudyFailed treatment of long bone nonunions with low intensity pulsed ultrasound.
The use of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) in the treatment of nonunions is still controversial. The present study is concerned with whether this procedure has a clinical use and which cofactors influence its therapeutic results. ⋯ Despite patients being chosen strictly according to EXOGEN(®) indications, only a small number of patients with nonunions who underwent LIPUS therapy experienced successful treatment (32.8 %). Overall, its use resulted in a clear delay in the time of treatment, so that according to our results, the use of LIPUS should be seen critically in long bone nonunions and use should be made on a case-by-case basis.

Characteristics of secondary arthrofibrosis after intra-articular distal radius fracture.
The purpose of this study was to assess characteristics of radiocarpal arthrofibrosis after intra-articular distal radius fractures (DRF). ⋯ Fracture severity correlates with the development of rigid intra-articular FTF. In case of rigid FTF with restricted wrist motion arthroscopic debridement may be considered at the time of hardware removal.

A treatment strategy to avoid iatrogenic Pipkin type III femoral head fracture-dislocations.
Reduction is urgently required in cases of traumatic hip dislocation to decrease the risk of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. However, successful reduction may not always be feasible for hip dislocations associated with femoral head fractures. This irreducibility may provoke further incidental fractures of the femoral neck with resultant Pipkin type III injuries. The purpose of this study was to describe an appropriate treatment strategy for irreducible femoral head fracture-dislocations. ⋯ Repeated or forceful closed reduction of irreducible femoral head fracture-dislocation injuries may result in iatrogenic femoral neck fractures with Pipkin type III injuries. Before attempting reduction, careful examination of plain radiographs and CT images may be helpful for determining the safest treatment strategy.

Pull-out stability of anchors for rotator cuff repair is also increased by bio-absorbable augmentation: a cadaver study.
Osteoporosis is a highly focused issue in current scientific research and clinical treatment. Especially in rotator cuff repair, the low bone quality of patients suffering from osteoporosis is an important issue. In this context, non-biological solutions using PMMA for anchor augmentation have been developed in the recent past. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether augmentation of suture anchors using bio-absorbable osteoconductive fiber-reinforced calcium phosphate results in improved failure load of suture anchors as well. ⋯ The bio-absorbable cement in this study could be a promising augmentation material for RC reconstructions, but further research is necessary-the material has to be evaluated in vivo.
