Trends and incidences of ligament-surgeries and osteotomies of the knee: an analysis of German inpatient records 2005-2013.
In Germany most surgical procedures of the ligaments of the knee and correcting osteotomies of the knees are performed within an inpatient setting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the available data to assess epidemiological trends and incidences in inpatient knee joint surgery. ⋯ There are growing trends for joint- and activity-preserving procedure in the middle-aged patients. The knowledge of the trends and incidences related to these procedures may help to validate and discuss the results of clinical and register studies.

Is the evaluation of the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) in the AP pelvis possible? Analysis of conventional X-rays and 3D-CT reconstructions.
A hypertrophic AIIS has been identified as a cause for extraarticular hip impingement and is classified according to Hetsroni using 3D-CT reconstructions. The role of the conventional AP pelvis X-ray, which is the first standard imaging step for the evaluation of hip pain, has not been investigated yet. ⋯ Distinct differentiation of the AIIS morphology in the AP pelvis is not possible, but the projection of the AIIS below the anterior acetabular rim represented a hypertrophic AIIS in all cases and should, therefore, be critically investigated for a relevant AIIS impingement.

Good isometric and isokinetic power restoration after distal biceps tendon repair with anchors.
Distal biceps brachii tendon rupture can lead to 30-40% power loss of elbow flexion and up to 50% of forearm supination. Re-fixation of the distal biceps brachii tendon is recommended to warrant an adequate quality of the patient's life. This study reports the isometric and isokinetic results after anchor re-fixation 2.5 years after surgery. ⋯ Level III, case-control study.

Effect of collapse on the deformity of the femoral head-neck junction in osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
The purpose of this study was to morphologically assess the effect of collapse on the deformity of the femoral head-neck junction in patients with nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). ⋯ This study demonstrated that the decreased femoral head-neck offset observed in patients with ONFH was a consequence of collapse.

Influence of tibial hybrid fixation on graft tension and stability in ACL double-bundle reconstruction.
Initial graft tension in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction affects stability and tension loss at follow-up. This study investigated the influence of hybrid tibial fixation in 3-tunnel double-bundle ACL reconstruction on initial graft tension and tension change and stability under anterior and combined rotatory loads. ⋯ Tibial hybrid fixation in 3-tunnel double-bundle ACL reconstruction increases time-zero AM- and PL-bundle tensions under loading conditions, generating greater construct stiffness. This could lead to a longer preservation of ACL-graft stability in clinical follow-up before bony incorporation.
