Blood loss in primary total hip arthroplasty with a short versus conventional cementless stem: a retrospective cohort study.
To evaluate the impact of short cementless stem on several clinical and radiographic outcomes, with particular focus on blood loss, in comparison with conventional cementless stem in total hip arthroplasty (THA). ⋯ GTS short stem was not associated with a clinically significant lower blood loss in the immediately postoperative period. Unadjusted exploratory analyses show that GTS stem provides the same results of CLS stem in terms of HHS and rate of stem revision at 5 years of follow-up.

Functional outcome and return to sports after the arthroscopic latarjet procedure in young and physically active patients.
The ideal treatment strategy for traumatic anterior shoulder instability with glenoid bone loss in young, physically active patients is still controversial. This study examines sporting activity, the ability to practice sports and the ability to return to sports after the arthroscopic Latarjet procedure. ⋯ Arthroscopic Latarjet procedure presents a good surgical option, especially for young, physically active patients; it has very good clinical outcome, a high return to sports rate and a low probability of recurrent dislocation.

Decision making for concomitant high tibial osteotomy (HTO) in cartilage repair patients based on a nationwide cohort study of 4968 patients.
High tibial osteotomy (HTO) for varus deformities is a common concomitant treatment in cartilage surgery. Aim of the present study was to analyze factors influencing the decision towards accompanying HTO in patients with cartilage defects of the medial femoral condyle, such as the amount of varus deformity. ⋯ Based upon data from a nationwide cohort, additional HTO in context with cartilage repair procedures of the medial femoral condyle is frequently performed even in mild varus deformities less than 5°. Other factors also seem to influence decision for HTO.

High failure rate 10.8 years after vastus medialis transfer and lateral release (Green's quadricepsplasty) for recurrent dislocation of the patella.
In adolescent patients with recurrent patellar dislocation, the Green's quadricepsplasty stabilizes the patella in a combination of a lateral release, a transfer of the medial head of the quadriceps onto the lateral part of the patella and an imbrication of the medial patellar retinaculum and joint capsule. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term performance, considering re-dislocations and functional outcomes. We hypothesized a high failure rate in the long term. ⋯ IV.

Predictive factors for failure of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction via the trans-tibial technique.
Factors for graft failure after trans-tibial (TT) ACL reconstruction, including anterolateral ligament (ALL) injury and degree of synovialization, remain unclear. This study is to evaluate the risk factors for graft failures after TT ACL reconstruction including ALL injury and synovialization. ⋯ IV, retrospective cohort study.
