Multicenter Study10-year follow-up of the Columbus knee prostheses system in a prospective multicenter study.
As endpoint of a prospective multicenter 10-year documentation using the Columbus system, this evaluation carried out results of clinical scores (Knee Society Score and Oxford Knee Score), an evaluation of radiological imaging, survival rates and a collection of complication statistics. ⋯ The endpoint analysis after an observation period of 10 years provided good clinical and radiographic results. In particular, an excellent survival rate of 96.6% after 10 years was demonstrated. The data published in this study are the first to be available in a prospective multicenter study on this system, which leads to a high level of clinical significance.

Charcot arthropathy (CN) can ultimately lead to limb loss despite appropriate treatment. Initial conservative treatment is the accepted treatment in case of a plantigrade foot. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the mid- to long-term clinical course of CN initially being treated conservatively, and to identify risk factors for reactivation and contralateral development of CN as well as common complications in CN. ⋯ III, long-term retrospective cohort study.

Acetabular reconstruction with femoral head autograft in primary total hip arthroplasty through a direct anterior approach is a reliable option for patients with secondary osteoarthritis due to developmental dysplasia of the hip.
Developmental dysplasia is challenging to treat with total hip arthroplasty via the direct anterior approach (DAA). Reconstructing the former anatomy while restoring the acetabular bone stock for future revisions in this young patient collective combined with the known advantages of the DAA would be desirable. The purpose of this study was to analyze the feasibility, radiographic outcome and clinical outcome of primary uncemented total hip arthroplasty with bulk femoral head autograft for acetabular augmentation through a DAA with a minimal follow-up of 12 months. ⋯ Acetabular reconstruction with femoral head autograft in primary THA through a direct anterior approach seems to be a reliable option for the treatment of secondary osteoarthritis in patients with DDH Hartofilakidis grade A and B. Prospective cohort studies with a large sample population and a long-term follow-up are necessary to confirm our findings.

High varus stem alignment in short-stem total hip arthroplasty: a risk for reconstruction of femoro-acetabular offset, leg length discrepancy and stem undersizing?
Short stems are increasingly used in in total hip arthroplasty (THA) because of advantages in bone and soft tissue preservation and reconstruction of hip geometry. Short stems can be inserted in a more varus position compared to conventional straight stems. This poses the risk of final varus misplacement of the femoral component, which is not intended in all femoral short stems. ⋯ High varus stem alignment > 3° leads to a statistically significant but minor increase in HO and poses the risk of stem undersizing. A preoperatively low genuine CCD angle pose a risk for varus stem positioning.

The application of an allogeneic bone screw for osteosynthesis in hand and foot surgery: a case series.
The allogeneic bone screw transplant is a new osteosynthesis device making the use of foreign fixation material obsolete for various kinds of indications. Moreover, it is integrated into the recipient bone by natural bone remodeling without harming the surrounding tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of the transplant for osteotomy and arthrodesis in hand and foot surgery and to evaluate the clinical importance of the device. ⋯ The application of the allogeneic bone screw resulted in a 100% fusion rate while the patient burden was low. The transplant is safe and suited for various kinds of osteosynthesis in hand and foot surgery.
