High range of motion in the first ten postoperative days after TKA does not predict superior outcome in the long run.
To retrospectively investigate the early postoperative range of motion (ROM) (days 4, 7, 10) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and to test for associations (a) with long-term outcome in terms of ROM and (b) with a disease-specific knee score. ⋯ From the main findings it would seem that steepness of ROM ascent in the early postoperative days is of minor importance for (a) long-term ROM and (b) long-term knee score outcome after TKA.

Single-stage total hip arthroplasty after failed fixation of proximal femoral fractures: an increased risk for periprosthetic joint infections?
Higher complication rates have been reported for total hip arthroplasty (THA) after osteosynthesis of proximal femur fractures (PFF). This study evaluated the infection risk for conversion of internal fixation of PFF to THA by a single-staged procedure in the absence of clear infection signs. ⋯ This study found a positive microbiological test result in 10% of a one-stage conversion of PFF fixation to THA. Moreover, we found a high infection rate (5.8%) for early postoperative periprosthetic joint infection. Interestingly, CRP has not been proven to be an adequate parameter for low-grade infections or occult colonized implants. Therefore, we recommend a comprehensive pre- and intraoperative diagnostic including hip aspiration, swabs and sonication when considering one-staged revision.

Clinical outcomes of anterior tibiofibular ligament's distal fascicle transfer versus ligament reconstruction with InternalBrace™ for chronic ankle instability patients.
Treatment of chronic ankle instability (CAI) for ankle sprain patients remains a challenge. If initial treatments fail, surgical stabilization techniques including ligament reconstruction should be performed. Anterior tibiofibular ligament (ATiFL) distal fascicle transfer for CAI was recently introduced. The goal of the study is to assess the 1-year clinical effectiveness of ATiFL's distal fascicle transfer versus ligament reconstruction with InternalBrace™ (Fa. Arthrex, Naples). ⋯ This is the first study that assessed a cohort of CAI patients and suggests that the ATiFL's distal fascicle transfer operation has the potential to attain good-to-excellent clinical outcomes after 1-year recovery. The AOFAS scores were significantly higher for patients with ATiFL's distal fascicle transfer, indicating that this technique may be considered a viable option for both patients and their surgeon, while long-term outcomes should be investigated in the future.

Cerclage fixation without K-wires is associated with fewer complications and reoperations compared with tension band wiring in stable displaced olecranon fractures in elderly patients.
Tension band wiring of olecranon fractures has high reported rates of complications and reoperations. We aimed to compare classic tension band wiring to cerclage fixation without K-wires in the treatment of displaced olecranon fractures in elderly patients. The primary outcome was reoperation. Secondary outcomes included complications and patient reported outcomes. Outcomes following non-operative treatment were also studied. ⋯ III-retrospective comparative cohort study.
