Retrospective clinical and X-ray-based outcome analysis of a short-stem hip arthroplasty taking into account the operative learning curve over 7 years in the 3-year control course.
Self-monitoring is crucial to work progressively with a high-quality standard. A retrospective analysis is a valuable tool for studying the postoperative outcome of a prosthesis and for evaluating the learning process for the surgeon. ⋯ Operative expertise was shown to gain through a learning curve, whereby postoperative results corresponded to the system philosophy of the short hip stem prosthesis. The distal FFR and the distal lateral distance could represent the principle of the prosthesis, which overall could be an interesting approach for verification of a new parameter.

Tunnel widening after ACL reconstruction with different fixation techniques: aperture fixation with biodegradable interference screws versus all-inside technique with suspensory cortical buttons. 5-year data from a prospective randomized trial.
The aim of the present study was to examine tunnel widening and clinical outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using two different fixation methods: aperture fixation with biodegradable interference screws versus all-inside ACLR with suspensory cortical buttons. ⋯ NCT01755819.

National population-based reference data for the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS).
Interpretation of patient-reported outcome scores such as the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) can be improved with use of reference values. The aim of the study was to establish population-based reference values for the HOOS' five subscales and its short-form HOOS-12. ⋯ This study provides reference values for the HOOS and its short form HOOS-12. Results show that older patients and patients with a BMI over 40 have worse HOOS and HOOS-12 scores that may be of clinical importance in the interpretation of scores both when evaluating potential for improvement and post-treatment results.

Ambulatory status after revision total hip arthroplasty in elective versus fracture indications.
To improve revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) prognosis and postoperative management, a better understanding of how non-elective and elective indications influence clinical outcomes is needed. We sought to compare ambulatory status, complication rates, and implant survival rates in patients who underwent aseptic rTHA for periprosthetic fracture or elective indications. ⋯ Compared to rTHA performed for elective aseptic indications, fracture rTHA patients had poorer early functional outcomes, with greater need for ambulatory aids and non-home discharge. However, these differences did not persist long term and did not portend increased infection or re-revision rates.

Mobile-bearing prosthesis suppresses the postoperative rotational mismatch and improves patient-reported outcome measurements better than fixed-bearing prosthesis: rotational analysis by 3D measurement in total knee arthroplasty.
It is preferable to reduce postoperative excessive rotational mismatch between the femur and tibia that causes poor clinical results following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aim of this study is to compare postoperative rotational mismatches and clinical outcomes with mobile- and fixed-bearing prostheses. ⋯ When compared to a fixed-bearing prosthesis, TKA using a mobile-bearing prosthesis could suppress the postoperative rotational mismatch between the femur and tibia that causes poor subjective functional activity score. However, since this study was conducted for PS-TKA, the results might not be applicable to other models.
