Three-dimensional cortical and trabecular bone microstructure of the proximal ulna.
The three-dimensional (3D) microstructure of the cortical and trabecular bone of the proximal ulna has not yet been described by means of high-resolution 3D imaging. An improved characterization can provide a better understanding of their relative contribution to resist impact load. The aim of this study is to describe the proximal ulna bone microstructure using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and relate it to gross morphology and function. ⋯ N.A.

Management of comminuted inferior patellar pole fractures with cerclage-wire-augmented separate vertical wiring: a retrospective clinical study.
Comminuted inferior patellar pole fractures are challenging injuries and require effective treatment due to the extension mechanism of the knee. This study aims to evaluate the outcome of above fractures treated with a modified technique of cerclage-wire-augmented separate vertical wiring (SVW) with cerclage wiring passed through the proximal patella. ⋯ The cerclage-wire-augmented SVW with cerclage wiring passed through the proximal patella appears to be a safe and simple technique which can effectively treat the comminuted inferior patellar pole fractures.

Open anatomical glenoid reconstruction with an iliac crest bone autograft effectively resolves off-track Hill-Sachs lesions to on-track lesions.
The purpose of this study was to determine if "off-track" Hill-Sachs lesions in patients with dynamic anteroinferior instability were transformed into "on-track" lesions using iliac bone autografts with screw fixation. The secondary purpose was to observe if postoperative bony remodeling would occur over time, resulting in recurrent "off-track" Hill-Sachs lesions with corresponding instability. ⋯ Case series; Level of evidence, IV.

Preoperative ferritin and hemoglobin levels are lower in patients with a history of COVID-19 but blood loss and transfusion requirements are not increased.
A history of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) may have an impact on hemoglobin and ferritin levels predisposing patients to increased blood transfusion requirements following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The current study compares ferritin levels, hemoglobin levels, and transfusion rates between SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and SARS-CoV-2 IgG negative TJA patients. ⋯ Although preoperative hemoglobin and ferritin levels are lower in SARS-CoV2 IgG positive patients, there was no difference in hemoglobin on POD one, recovery of hemoglobin levels at four-six weeks postoperatively, and transfusion rates after surgery. Routine ferritin testing prior to TJA is not recommended in SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive patients.
