A retrospective analysis of controlled active motion (CAM) versus modified Kleinert/Duran (modKD) rehabilitation protocol in flexor tendon repair (zones I and II) in a single center.
The aim of this study was to analyze primary flexor tendon repair results in zones I and II, comparing the rupture rate and clinical outcomes of the controlled active motion (CAM) protocol with the modified Kleinert/Duran (mKD) protocol. ⋯ The gut feeling that lead to change in our rehabilitation protocol could be explained by the heterogenous bias. A precise outcome analysis of group 1 could underline that in patients with complex hand trauma, nerve reconstruction, oedema or early extension deficit, an even more intensive and individual rehabilitation has to be performed to achieve better TAM at 6 or 12 weeks. Our study explicitly demonstrated a significant better outcome in the modK/D group compared to CAM group. This monocenter study is limited by its retrospective nature and the low number of patients.

Observational StudyOsseoperception in transcutaneous osseointegrated prosthetic systems (TOPS) after transfemoral amputation: a prospective study.
Endo-exo prosthetics (EEP), which belongs to the transcutaneous osseointegrated prosthetic systems (TOPS), provides an alternative bone-anchored rehabilitation method for transfemoral amputees. It led to the question of whether transmitted forces from prosthetic feet are perceptible by osseoperception resulting in proprioceptive feedback of ground conditions. ⋯ Our study results suggest that the EEP treatment can lead to an improvement in tactile sensory perception via the bone-anchored implant, which can lead to an increase in quality of life and improved gait safety.

Effects of total hip arthroplasty and hemiarthroplasty on hip function in patients with traumatic femoral neck fracture.
Traumatic femoral neck fracture is a common disease that can be treated by hip arthroplasty, which is divided into hemiarthroplasty (HA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA). The difference between HA and THA are incompletely understood. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of hip arthroplasty on hip function in patients with traumatic femoral neck fracture. ⋯ Total hip arthroplasty can effectively restore hip joint function in patients with traumatic femoral neck fracture, with low incidence of short-term and long-term complications, high safety, and worthy of clinical application.

Arthroscopic treatment and subacromial decompression of calcific tendinitis without removal of the calcific deposit results in rapid resolution of symptoms and excellent clinical outcomes in commercial airline pilots and cabin crew.
The purpose of this study was to report the results of subacromial arthroscopic decompression (SAD) without removal of the calcific deposits in patients with calcifying tendinitis. ⋯ The results of this study suggest excellent short- and mid-term clinical outcomes can be achieved in patients with calcific tendinitis undergoing arthroscopic debridement and subacromial decompression without removal of calcific deposits. In this patient population, early surgical intervention was a potentially viable alternative to nonoperative treatment, and allowed early return to work.

What are the optimal targeting visualizations for performing surgical navigation of iliosacral screws? A user study.
Complex orthopaedic procedures, such as iliosacral screw (ISS) fixations, can take advantage of surgical navigation technology to achieve accurate results. Although the impact of surgical navigation on outcomes has been studied, no studies to date have quantified how the design of the targeting display used for navigation affects ISS targeting performance. However, it is known in other contexts that how task information is displayed can have significant effects on both accuracy and time required to perform motor tasks, and that this can be different among users with different experience levels. This study aimed to investigate which visualization techniques helped experienced surgeons and inexperienced users most efficiently and accurately align a surgical tool to a target axis. ⋯ Our results show that 2D bullseye views helped both experienced orthopaedic trauma surgeons and inexperienced users target iliosacral screws accurately and efficiently. These findings could inform the design of visualizations for use in a surgical navigation system for screw insertions for both training and surgical practice.
