Combining the advantages of 3-D and 2-D templating of total hip arthroplasty using a new tin-filtered ultra-low-dose CT of the hip with comparable radiation dose to conventional radiographs.
Inaccurately scaled radiographs for total hip arthroplasty (THA) templating are a source of error not recognizable to the surgeon and may lead to inaccurate reconstruction and thus revision surgery or litigation. Planning based on computed tomography (CT) scans is more accurate but associated with higher radiation exposure. The aim of this study was (1) to retrospectively assess the scaling deviation of pelvic radiographs; (2) to prospectively assess the feasibility and the radiation dose of THA templating on radiograph-like images reconstructed from a tin-filtered ultra-low-dose CT dataset. ⋯ Retrospective and prospective comparative study, Level III.

The quality of immediate postoperative radiographs, performed after total hip replacement in the operating room versus in the post-anesthesia care unit: is there a difference?
Currently, there are no clear guidelines regarding the optimal settings for immediate postoperative imaging following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Authors' primary aim was to determine the preferred setting for postoperative radiographs by comparing a technical quality of imaging performed in postanesthesia care unit (PACU) versus operating room (OR). ⋯ Postoperative X-rays performed in the PACU were characterized by better technical quality compared to postoperative radiographs performed in OR. We, therefore, suggest to perform immediate postoperative evaluation in PACU to provide baseline radiographs of higher quality for future follow-up.

Titanium niobium nitride knee implants are not inferior to chrome cobalt components for primary total knee arthroplasty at medium-term follow-up.
Oxidized zirconium (Oxinium), titanium nitride (TiN) or titanium niobium nitride (TiNbN) coated implants became in recent years available for an increasing amount of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) systems. The hypothesis of this study was that the use of TiNbN-coated components would not lead to inferior results compared to conventional implants and that none of the metal hypersensitivity patients receiving TiNbN-coated implants would require revision for metal allergy. ⋯ The use of titanium niobium nitride coated implants for primary knee osteoarthritis in self-reported metal hypersensitivity patients shows similar outcomes and survivorship rates as conventional chrome cobalt TKA, with no revisions for allergy at medium-term follow-up.

Influence of kinematics of the lumbopelvic complex in hip arthroplasty dislocation: from assessment to recommendations.
In total hip arthroplasty (THA), misplacement of the implant can provide instability. Adequate orientation of the acetabular cup is a challenge due to variations in inter-individual anatomy and kinematics of the pelvis in everyday life. The aim of this study was to characterize the kinematic factors influencing the risk of dislocation in order to give recommendations for optimal placement of the cup. We hypothesized that the lack of pelvic adaptation would influence the risk of prosthetic instability and motivate adapted. ⋯ Level III (matched case-control study).

Hip abductor tear (HAT) is an increasingly diagnosed cause of refractory lateral hip pain and dysfunction, affecting 10-25% of the general population. ⋯ All patients who underwent an oHATr were able to return at least to one type of sport. This cohort was highly satisfied with their sports involvement and recreational activity achievement. In addition, 88% of patients reported that oHATr improved sports activity. There was a shift from higher to lower impact sports. Furthermore, just 3 hips present a retear after surgery.
