Development of a machine learning algorithm to identify surgical candidates for hip and knee arthroplasty without in-person evaluation.
Arthroplasty care delivery is facing a growing supply-demand mismatch. To meet future demand for joint arthroplasty, systems will need to identify potential surgical candidates prior to evaluation by orthopaedic surgeons. ⋯ III.

The effect of reduced bone mineral density on elective total hip arthroplasty outcomes.
Reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and disruption of normal bony architecture are the characteristics of osteopenia and osteoporosis and in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) may cause failure of trabecular ingrowth. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of reduced BMD on outcomes following primary elective THA. ⋯ Patients with osteoporosis were older with reduced BMI and had increased PFx after non-cemented elective THA. Understanding this can help surgeons formulate an appropriate preoperative plan for the treatment of patients with osteoporotic bone undergoing elective THA.

Favorable outcomes of posterior cruciate-stabilized inserts over ultracongruent inserts in total knee arthroplasty.
Posterior cruciate-stabilized (PS) and ultracongruent (UC) inserts are used during total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but superiority in gaining postoperative knee flexion and functionality remains contested. Therefore, this study compared postoperative outcomes between PS and UC inserts. ⋯ III, retrospective comparative study.

The corticocancellous press fit iliac crest bone dowel for recalcitrant scaphoid nonunion: analysis of union rate and clinical outcome.
Scaphoid nonunion after failed primary treatment remains challenging particularly when entailed by bone loss, avascular necrosis or deformity. We describe a scaphoid augmentation and fixation technique for cases of recalcitrant nonunion after screw placement by autologous press fit corticocancellous dowel. This study aims to provide reliable data on clinical and radiological outcomes and to contextualize in the face of other treatment options. ⋯ IV, retrospective case series.
