The effects of length and width of the stem on proximal humerus stress shielding in uncemented primary reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.
To preserve humeral bone during RTSA, stems have been made shorter and cement avoided whenever possible. However, with the increased use of uncemented RTSA, a phenomenon comparable to the stress shielding of the hip has been described for the proximal humerus. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of stem length and width on proximal humeral bone resorption after primary uncemented RTSA. ⋯ III.

Etiology and antimicrobial resistance patterns in chronic osteomyelitis of the tibia: an 11-year clinical experience.
To analyze changes in tendency of etiology and of antimicrobial resistance patterns to most common local and systemic antibiotics in chronic osteomyelitis of the tibia (COM-T) in a Level I trauma center over an 11-year period. ⋯ According to the results of the present study, rates of Gram-positive and Gram-negative infections remained consistent during the two study periods, but with an upward trend in MDRO and polymicrobial infections detected. The local combination of a glycopeptide plus an aminoglycoside was effective in treating the most frequently isolated microorganisms.

The distal tibiofibular syndesmosis is a reliable landmark for 3° varus tibial resection in total knee arthroplasty: a radiological evaluation on 1296 cases.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility and the accuracy of distal tibiofibular syndesmosis (DTFS) as landmark to perform controlled varus tibial resections during total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The hypothesis was that DTFS can be used to perform an accurate 3° varus tibial cut. ⋯ IV, retrospective case series.

First 100 total hip arthroplasties performed by a young surgeon using the direct anterior approach: learning curve and complications.
Most of the reported discussions about the learning curve for the direct anterior approach (DAA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) have been by experienced surgeons. The study's aim was to describe the learning curve, short-term outcomes, complications, and adaptations to the DAA used in the first 100 THA cases experienced by a young surgeon who had received DAA training for trauma surgeries. ⋯ Even after receiving training on the DAA for trauma surgeries, the young surgeon experienced a steep learning curve and more complications in the first 50 cases. The DAA for THA is a technically demanding procedure and may require guidance from an experienced surgeon to manage unexpected complications.

Mid-term clinical and sonographic outcomes of minimally invasive acromioclavicular joint reconstruction: mini-open versus arthroscopically assisted.
The current literature describes various operative stabilization strategies which achieve good clinical outcomes after acute acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation. The aim of this study was to compare the mid-term clinical and sonographic treatment outcomes after minimally invasive mini-open and arthroscopic reconstruction. ⋯ Both minimally invasive techniques for acute ACJ stabilization achieved excellent clinical and sonographic outcomes without one technique being statistically superior to the other.
