Clinical outcomes following tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis with intramedullary nailing combined with partial fibulectomy and onlay bone graft.
Although intramedullary nailing is a popular method for tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis, nonunion is one of the most commonly reported complications. This study aimed to evaluate the fusion rate, improvement in functional outcomes, and occurrence of complications in tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis using retrograde intramedullary nailing with partial fibulectomy and onlay bone graft technique. ⋯ Our technique of tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis with partial fibulectomy and onlay bone grafting could be a good option where both the tibiotalar and subtalar joints need to be fused.

Do preoperative PROMIS scores independently predict 90-day readmission following primary total knee arthroplasty?
The rising demand for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is expected to increase the total number of TKA-related readmissions, presenting significant public health and economic burden. With the increasing use of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) scores to inform clinical decision-making, this study aimed to investigate whether preoperative PROMIS scores are predictive of 90-day readmissions following primary TKA. ⋯ This study demonstrates that preoperative PROMIS scores may not be used to predict 90-day readmission following primary TKA. Non-white patients and patients with CVD are 3.53 and 1.66 times more likely to be readmitted, highlighting existing racial disparities and medical comorbidities contributing to readmission in patients undergoing TKA.

Femoral neck shortening as a sequela of internal fixation for femoral neck fractures and its effect on the coronal alignment of the limb: a pilot study.
Femoral neck shortening is a common phenomenon following osteosynthesis for femoral neck fractures, which was shown to have a negative effect on hip function. There is paucity of literature on the effect of shortening on the ipsilateral limb mechanical axis and knee coronal alignment. We hypothesized that postoperative femoral neck shortening can alter the limb's mechanical axis into valgus. ⋯ We found a more lateralized mechanical axis in limbs that demonstrated post-operative ipsilateral femoral neck severe shortening. These findings may provide a possible explanation and rationale for knee pain and perhaps for the development of knee osteoarthritis as a sequalae of femoral neck shortening. Further investigation and larger cohort, long-term studies are needed to further explore this hypothesis.

Compliance status and influencing factors of anticoagulation therapy in outpatient undergoing major orthopedic surgery.
This study was designed to investigate influencing factors of out-of-hospital anticoagulation therapy compliance among patients undergoing major orthopaedic surgeries. ⋯ Poor compliance with out-of-hospital anticoagulation therapy in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery is mainly associated with a long course of medication, adverse reactions, low self-efficacy and low medication beliefs. Healthcare staff should strengthen post-discharge anticoagulation management based on relevant influencing factors to enhance patient compliance.

Age-based comparison of meniscal dimensions between an asymptomatic complete discoid lateral meniscus and normal meniscus: MRI evaluation.
This study aimed to evaluate the meniscal size of asymptomatic discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) and compare it with that of normal lateral meniscus (LM) and to compare changes in meniscal dimensions with age among patients with asymptomatic DLM and those with normal LM using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ III: Retrospective comparative study.
