Long-terms outcomes of radial head arthroplasty using a bipolar prosthesis.
In acute treatment of radial head fractures, a radial head prosthesis can be considered if open reduction and internal fixation are not technically feasible. ⋯ Bipolar radial head prostheses are an option for acute treatment of isolated unreconstructable radial head fractures. During follow-up, three patients required implant revision and removal; the capitellum surface presented severe degenerative changes and the prosthesis was not replaced. Another complication was the risk of implant dislocation, in relation to implant design, incorrect positioning of the radial head stem or else to inadequate reconstruction of the lateral collateral ligament. Further work is needed to establish the long-term follow-up results of Judet implants in complex elbow fractures.

Comparison of revision rates and epidemiological data of a single total knee arthroplasty system of different designs (cruciate retaining, posterior stabilized, mobile bearing, and fixed bearing): a meta-analysis and systematic review of clinical trials and national arthroplasty registries.
This study aimed to meta-analyze epidemiological data, revision rates, and incidences of different designs of a single Total Knee Arthroplasty System and compare these factors across different countries. ⋯ In conclusion, pooled data from 41,200 cases of TKA with a single Total Knee Arthroplasty System in two arthroplasty registries revealed that there was no significant difference in revision rates between the mobile bearing and fixed bearing design within the first 5 years after implantation. In addition, a comparison of the revision rates in n = 123,361 cases showed no significant advantage for cruciate retaining or posterior stabilized in the first 5 years after implantation.

A staged use of tourniquet does not influence the fast-track recovery after total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized study.
Upper-tight tourniquet is widely used in Total Knee Arthroplasty in different modalities. However, it has been associated with a negative impact on post-operative muscle strength end pain. This study aimed to investigate the effect of tourniquet on post-operative pain and recovery in enhanced recovery joint surgery. ⋯ The use of tourniquet in TKA surgery helps to minimize intraoperative blood loss and improves surgical field visualization. Its application with a modern and staged protocol does not affect the functional outcomes (OKS, KSS, ROM) of the early post operative period without compromising the fast-track recovery.

The influence of surgical technique guidance and surgeon's experience on the femoral head assembly in total hip arthroplasty.
The importance of the assembly procedure on the taper connection strength is evident. However, existent surgical technique guides frequently lack comprehensive and precise instructions in this regard. The aim of our experimental study was to evaluate the influence of the surgical technique guide on the femoral head assembly procedure in surgeons with differing levels of experience in total hip arthroplasty. ⋯ The present study demonstrated a high variation in the parameters of the femoral head assembly procedure. Consideration of the surgical technique guide was found to be a limited factor among participants with varying levels of experience in total hip arthroplasty. These findings underline the importance of sufficient preoperative training, to standardize the assembly procedure, including impaction force, angle, and use of instruments.

The psoas muscle index as a useful predictor of total hip arthroplasty outcomes.
The aim of this study is to assess the association between the psoas muscle index (PMI) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) outcomes. This is a critical issue as sarcopenia has been associated with poor patient satisfaction post-THA. ⋯ The PMI, which is associated with nutritional status and global sagittal spinal deformity, does predict THA outcomes. Therefore, it can be useful when discussing THA expectations with patients.
