Influence of broach surface design of a fully hydroxyapatite coated, double tapered stem on periprosthetic bone mineral density after total hip arthroplasty: a study based on the morphology of the proximal femur.
This study aimed to compare the impact of different broach surface designs on post-operative clinical outcomes, bone reactions and changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) using a fully hydroxyapatite coated and double tapered stem with either compaction shape (COM) or hybrid shape (HYB) broaches. ⋯ This study suggests that the broach surface design of fully hydroxyapatite coated stems may influence periprosthetic BMD changes, especially in Dorr type A and B femurs. Surgeons should consider broach selection based on patient-specific femoral morphology to optimize BMD preservation in THA procedures using fully hydroxyapatite coated stems.

Evaluating the association of radiographic parameters of proximal humerus fractures managed conservatively with functional outcomes.
Treatment of proximal humerus fractures remains controversial. Understanding the factors that can affect the long-term functional outcomes can aid with management choices. This primary aim of this paper is to evaluate the association of radiographic parameters with functional outcomes. ⋯ Radiographic parameters whilst having excellent reliability, have a limited ability to predict short-term functional recovery. The extent of retroversion is the most important predictor for functional recovery with 25o a cut-off guide. Fractures with a higher initial valgus and retroversion tend to displace more.

Impact of size and fragmentation of the anteroinferior glenoid rim on clinical and functional outcomes of non-operatively treated Bony Bankart lesions in middle-aged population.
The optimal treatment approach for Bony Bankart remains a subject of considerable debate among shoulder surgeons. Existing literature highlights low recurrence rates and high patient satisfaction with nonoperative treatment, particularly in the middle-aged population. This study aimed to evaluate the recurrence rate of dislocation, as well as the clinical and functional outcomes in middle-aged individuals treated nonoperatively following an acute bony Bankart fracture. Additionally, the impact of glenoid rim size and fragmentation on the treatment outcome was investigated. ⋯ IV.

Total knee arthroplasty in schizophrenia patients: early complications and cost in a propensity-matched national database study.
Studies investigating the link between mental health disorders and complications following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have found worse outcomes in individuals with such disorders. Therefore, risk factors and outcomes following TKA in patients with schizophrenia should be better understood. This study aims to investigate cost and duration of hospital stay, inpatient complications, and mortality associated with TKA in patients with schizophrenia. ⋯ Schizophrenia patients had a significantly longer hospital stay and increased charges acquired during their stay compared to the control group following TKA. Acute renal failure, blood loss anemia, and pneumonia were medical complications with an increased risk following TKA in patients with schizophrenia in a matched analysis. Increased care during the perioperative period following TKA in individuals with schizophrenia is thus warranted.
