Randomized Controlled TrialFavourable mid-term isokinetic strength after primary THA combined with a modified enhanced recovery after surgery concept (ERAS) in a single blinded randomized controlled trial.
Muscular deficits as part of severe osteoarthritis of the hip may persist for up to two years following total hip arthroplasty (THA). No study has evaluated the mid-term benefit of a modified enhanced-recovery-after-surgery (ERAS) concept on muscular strength of the hip in detail thus far. We (1) investigated if a modified ERAS-concept for primary THA improves the mid-term rehabilitation of muscular strength and (2) compared the clinical outcome using validated clinical scores. ⋯ With regard to muscular strength, this study supports the implementation of an ERAS concept for primary THA. The combination with a modified ERAS concept lead to faster rehabilitation for up to one-year postoperatively, reflected by significant higher muscular strength (peak-torque, total-work, power). Possibly, because common scores are not sensitive enough, the results are not reflected in the clinical outcome. Further larger randomized controlled trials are necessary for long-term evaluation.

Comparative StudyComparison of clinical and radiographic outcomes of bilateral versus unilateral ramus fixation in straddle fractures with posterior pelvic ring injury.
Superior and inferior ramus fractures, termed straddle fractures, are high-energy fractures often accompanied by unstable pelvic ring injuries. However, consensus is lacking regarding indications for surgical treatment or fixation methods. We aimed to compare clinical and radiological outcomes of unilateral ramus fixation (URF) and bilateral ramus fixation (BRF) for straddle fractures with unilateral posterior pelvic ring injuries. ⋯ Unilateral anterior fixation can provide sufficient stability and clinical effectiveness in the surgical treatment of straddle fractures in areas with posterior pelvic ring injuries. Compared with bilateral anterior fixation, unilateral fixation significantly reduces operation time and blood loss, making it a viable fixation method for straddle fractures.

Comparative StudyOutpatient vs. inpatient designation in total hip arthroplasty: can we predict who will require hospitalization?
Following removal of total hip arthroplasty (THA) from the inpatient only (IPO) list by the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), arthroplasty surgeons face increased pressure to perform procedures on an outpatient (OP) basis. The purposes of the present study were to compare patients booked for THA as OP who required conversion to IP status postoperatively, to patients who were booked as, and remained OP, and to identify factors predictive of conversion from OP to IP status. ⋯ Retrospective Cohort Study.

Comparative StudyNo differences in clinical and radiographic outcomes between standard offset and high offset short cementless stems.
To compare clinical and radiographic outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) using standard offset versus high offset short cementless stems. ⋯ There were little to no differences in clinical or radiographic outcomes of THA performed using standard offset versus high offset short cementless stems. Although high offset stems are more frequently aligned in varus, while cortical hypertrophy occurs in wider intramedullary canals.

Attitude of aspiring orthopaedic surgeons towards artificial intelligence: a multinational cross-sectional survey study.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perspectives of aspiring orthopaedic surgeons on artificial intelligence (AI), analysing how gender, AI knowledge, and technical inclination influence views on AI. Additionally, the extent to which recent AI advancements sway career decisions was assessed. ⋯ Cross-sectional survey study; level IV.
