Review Meta AnalysisA meta-analysis of total knee arthroplasty following high tibial osteotomy versus primary total knee arthroplasty.
This study was performed to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) following high tibial osteotomy (HTO) versus primary TKA. ⋯ Patients who undergo conversion of HTO to TKA have similar 10-year survival rate, KSS, extension angle and radiographic results as patients who undergo primary TKA. However, conversion of HTO to TKA required longer operative time and had a higher infection rate than performing primary TKA. Moreover, conversion of HTO to TKA is associated with poorer flexion angle than primary TKA.

Review Meta AnalysisLaboratory-based versus qualitative assessment of α-defensin in periprosthetic hip and knee infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Two methods are currently available for the assay of α-defensin: the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the lateral flow test. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of synovial fluid α-defensin and to compare the accuracy of the laboratory-based test and the qualitative assessment for the diagnosis of hip and knee prosthetic infection. ⋯ Detection of α-defensin is an accurate test for diagnosis of hip and knee prosthetic infections. The diagnostic accuracy of the two alpha-defensin assessment methods is comparable. The lateral flow assay is a valid, rapid, and more available diagnostic tool, particularly to rule out PJI.

Meta AnalysisSurgical treatment is better than non-surgical treatment for primary patellar dislocation: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
At present, the best treatment for primary patellar dislocation (PPD) has not been unified. Moreover, meta-analyses comparing the non-surgical and surgical treatments of PPD are lacking. Thus, we aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of surgical or non-surgical treatment of PPD. ⋯ Surgical treatment can provide better clinical results in a short period of time, and patients may achieve good results within 10 years owing to the advances in surgical techniques and instruments. Thus, we recommend surgical treatment as the preferred treatment for primary patellar dislocation.

Meta AnalysisHemostatic techniques to reduce blood transfusion after primary TKA: a meta-analysis and systematic review.
To investigate the efficacy of non-tranexamic acid (TXA) on reducing blood loss and requirements of allogeneic blood transfusion (ABT) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ The available evidence in this meta-analysis suggests that postoperative flexion position, fibrin sealant, and cell salvage can substantially decrease the rate of ABT in TKA. Further studies, including more hemostatic methods and high-quality research, are expected.

Meta AnalysisShock-wave therapy improved outcome with plantar fasciitis: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Shock-wave therapy (SWT) has been widely applied and proven to be an effective treatment in ameliorating symptoms of plantar fasciitis (PF). Ultrasound therapy (UT) is another common treatment of PF, and several researches have documented its advantages when compared to corticosteroid injection. Despite this, few studies have focused on comparing the use of SWT and UT in the treatment of PF. The purpose of our meta-analysis is to evaluate whether SWT is better than UT in managing PF, both in terms of ameliorating pain and improving functionality. ⋯ The results from this meta-analysis highlight the effectiveness of both SWT and UT in the treatment of PF. Although inter-group differences were not significant, the VAS score was better improved in the SWT group, suggesting that SWT may be a superior alternative for the treatment of PF.
